After the last 1-2months pay out on my car i was seriously
violent4.gif
so ive been looking for a new rig, ive been really tempted by a couple of rigs over the last month or so & seriously tempted by the new Aria AsuNDeR K wow what a machine for the money but £1000 is alot of cash after spending £1300 on one's car recently so...

I'm always looking for a bargain & ive managed to bag an XPS Studio 7100 X6 1035t, the overall spec isn't stella, crappy ATI aka i suck @ folding lol...small'ish HD & mem but the unit came in at a seriously good price so it would of been rude not to buy it for folding

I'll either buy another GTX460 for it or slap my spare 8800gt in for some PPD goodness
cool.png

I'll let ya know when i get it
laugh.gif
what im thinking of doing is retiring my old E6600/8800gt rig to my bro as it doesn't really cut it smp folding or i might just keep it gpu folding
cool.gif
still got a spare 8800gt just sitting here screaming 'ppd ppd' @ me
tongue.gif

Suppose i could put the TX650 & GTX 460 out of the Q6600 in the X6 then slap the 8800gt & original psu bk in the other rig

sounds like a plan

Should be here tomorrow BUT after checking in my vast pile of boxes i haven't got another D-Sub cable & spare kb & mouse
banghead.gif
could of sworn blind i had them

maybe i got shut with my last rig? oh well new one's ordered but wont be here for several days

Came late this afternoon, doesn't look a bad system really, At least now they dont put stupid warranty stickers over the case (which are a sod to take off) which stops you from opening the case! why companies ever do this is beyond me as pc's are meant to be opened & upgraded.

Anyway had a gander inside & doesn't look to bad, wires need tidying up abit but overall fairly clean & tidy (little dust in the bottom of the case) Not bothered to see if the thing works yet as i didn't want to shut down any of my other machines & loose any points
biggrin.gif

I swear i could hear the ATI card crying as it knew its time was nearly up
laugh.gif
PSU doesn't seem to shabby for this type of system...460w Delta with 41a spread over 3rails (18/15/8) so should be ok for a 460gtx? we will see
cool.png
mind you the same psu also runs a 5870 in the 7100's top spec so a 460 should be fine.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it performs.

Ya so am i
dry.gif
managed to get it up & running yesterday but after running the simple windows experience index it got so far then BSOD
angry.gif
rebooted & ran again same thing. So decided to run Heaven benchmark same thing.

Ran the Dell boot diagnostic & it came back with error code 0123 msg, error code 2000/0123 integrity test failed which which turns out to the memory. If i run memtest it doesn't find any errors
huh.gif
so ok, by this time i couldn't even get it to boot into windows, had the option to either boot straight to windows which i couldn't because it would BSOD or the option to try & fix the problem which i let it try but it said it couldn't fix the said problem. I even tried Seatools thinking it might be a bad sector on the disc stopping it from booting but nothing was found.

P.S. Even when i tried to load the Win7 disc in to reformat it would still BSOD

Anyway this morning i tried it with only one stick in, booted straight into windows without a problem
smile.gif
ran windows experience again BSOD, ran Heaven and it passed the DX11 test, ran the DX9 test & it BSOD. Ok ran the Dell diagnostic again & this time it couldn't find anything wrong with the single stick
huh.gif

Rebooted & tried again, same thing BSOD, so changed to the other stick & back into windows for a 32M SuperPi run, had been going for sometime then BSOD
rolleyes.gif

Arrrghh.

P.S. Testing of the ram has consisted of using slots 1&2 only, The stick that was in slot 1 was tested in that slot only and the same with the other stick in slot 2.

Suppose i could try them in 3&4 but im getting sick of staring at the bloody screen now

Well rig went back Monday & i got two emails today, one said they'd be testing it today & the second 2hrs later said it had a faulty cpu and they would be refunding me the £££

Oh well @ least that cash can now go towards the carbon road bike ive just bought
laugh.gif

Whether it works is another matter

I want to retire my old dualcore to my bro but finding a replacement is proving hard at the mo so hopefully this time around things work out
unsure.gif

Now this is an eye opener, looks like with the new Core16 (Beta) ATI cards are gaining some PPD

Looks like a nice deal, if it works.

That new Core looks like it could be just the thing ATi users need right now but I'm a bit confused as to why the 6870 is pulling lower numbers than the 5870?

It's a step in the right direction for sure. Hopefully they can get on par with nVidia cards soon.
