Wiping the evidence...

I tried Eraser guys, even on the most basic 1-pass, 0 fill method it said it was gong to take 24hrs

I let it get to 50% and then got fed up so I stopped it.

Any quicker methods of blanking 160gb apart from smashing both disks?

Not really - if you've got sensitive info on there. Any software method that is safe relies on random overwriting of 1s and 0s for at least 7 passes.

You can take a gamble by just doing a format but your data could still be accessed if somone really wanted to try. Depends on what you think the risk of that is.

I've actually just had a bit of a brainwave....

The two disks in the machine have always been in RAID0. If I swap one of the disks with a spare, then that's pretty much half of every single file ever written to the array unrecoverable isn't it?

Good thinking Batman!

Just wondering, why not just use those 2 HDs in your current build and put others in the F40?

New hard disks are 360gb, F40 has 80gb :p

If u have half of a Raid0 setup, it is wholey feasible to recover partial files, and files small enough to be less than or equal to half a strip.

Pictures look funny :p Small text files can prove revealing.

I was using it on a pretty poor laptop to get the throughput I mentioned.... God only knows why yours is so poor...

Try advanced system optimizer v2 ,

www.boostxp.com

in the security section of the program, theres a handy tool that offers an array of cleaning styles, the most powerful ( and slowest, needless to say) method available is one that the CIA have been known to use:O

whilst the data won't be gone, it uses an advanced file trace encryption system that effectively Makes any ghost traces Invisible.

Its slow, but it toms Any freaky code monkeys out there getting access to personal information.
