Not really - if you've got sensitive info on there. Any software method that is safe relies on random overwriting of 1s and 0s for at least 7 passes.
You can take a gamble by just doing a format but your data could still be accessed if somone really wanted to try. Depends on what you think the risk of that is.
The two disks in the machine have always been in RAID0. If I swap one of the disks with a spare, then that's pretty much half of every single file ever written to the array unrecoverable isn't it?
Thats what I've been using mate, but the default settings take over 24hras on my rig. The throughput is only 3mb/s per disk tho which is pretty poor :s
