Windows Defender vs Ransomware

That's not surprising at all? I don't even need to watch the video for that :p

Used to use Avast but with their recent data collection results coming out I just use windows defender alongside an active Malwarebytes(paid not free). Works well for me. Inexperienced people should still use something other than Defender though...

I've personally been using Malwarebytes and Bitdefender Total Security (both paid) for few years now and they've been rock solid.

Did quite the research for different AV before and in every test, Bitdefender came out on top with an almost 100% perfect score of catching everything in tests.

Yeah Bitdefender is one of the best, I think I will go Bitdefender when my Kaspersky license runs out. Since Russia has banned VPNs I'm less trusting of an AV based in Russia although it is a good product.

can also vouch for bitdefender total security been using it for years now over and very happy with it

I've used Bitdefender and Kaspersky (both paid), but having used Avast free, can't really say any were better than the other. That's why I stuck with Avast as it is clearly the best and less obtrusive , plus free, AV(because it's by far the biggest with over 430 million users). But their recent Data Collection that has come out is completely unacceptable for a AV company that prides on protecting it's users.

So basically either pay(with less data collection on you), go free(for insane data collection), or use none and rely on Malwarebytes.

Or go Linux :p

Or pay attention to what you do on the internet and not fall for spoofed links and shady downloads.

Defender sure aint the best thing out there, but a bit of common sense and watching where you go on the internet has been perfectly safe for me ever since win10 launched and i ditched avast back then already since it was just getting more and more annoying with announcements and deals and promotions.

I agree but this isn't the case for 99% of people using a computer. Just 2 weeks ago I had to fix a friend's girlfriends pc after she owned it for probably less than a few days after she got it because she already had 59 viruses/malware/PUP installed.

Needless to say, I installed Avast(because free and before the whole data collection thing came up) and she's been fine ever since. So it's certainly better but still the overwhelming majority does need it. Only major downside to Windows imo.

You don't have to open anything to get a virus. A pop up window can just drop a payload. I believe it's called Malvertising, it happened on that famous Swedish file sharing site a few years ago that's why they now don't run any adverts (they blamed a rogue advertiser).

Over christmas I had 2 phishing emails of which one was one of the best I've seen, the other was easy to spot but still.
