Windows 8

Hey guys,

So long story short... I recently built my mother a new PC, used my PCs windows key in order to simply install Windows onto the new PC. As I would then use the Windows key which she had on her previous PC.

Mine wasn't activated on my own PC, as I had just switch motherboard, from an ASUS P8Z77-I Deluxe to an ASUS Gryphon Z97 Armor Edition.

I told her NOT to click on activate, as I would call Microsoft now when I'm off work to fix both PCs... then of course, when I'm at work, she does click on activate "just to test it"... and now I don't have an Windows 8 key to activate mine.

I can't find the key sticker on her previous PC, nor any document of it... tried booting into her older HDD in order to see if I could retrieve that way, but no luck.

Now, my question is... I can't find an 8 key anywhere, only 8.1.
Does it matter if I get Windows 8.1 key rather than Windows 8 key?... I mean, I won't be able to activate that one on an windows 8 system (if I would do reinstall from the disk)?...

Hope you guys understand this... as I kinda wrote it now when I'm kinda pissed after having to buy a new key for £100 just because she couldn't wait 4 days till I'm off work, as the "activate windows" blue screen kept popping up, she thought it was too much hazzle to click it off and away... and simply activated it instead.
Wow... I'm really pissed at the moment, sorry guys! :/

Thanks,
Chrazey

Wait, so you have Windows 8 on a system and can only get an 8.1 key? Why not just update to 8.1?

Also, you could try this:

Just saying that this is not illegal; This is a required step for installing an upgrade pack as a clean install (as this isn't normally possible, but you'll always want a clean install and why pay extra for a full cop when you are upgrading anyway). It helps activating upgrade keys as full on OS, so it might help in your situation though I doubt it will.

If it does though; it is likely that it'll just activate Windows on your PC and deactivate the one your mother has.

For future reference, don't use personal keys for other people's systems. Especially mums!

Thanks dude, might check that one up...

So I have another problem... my dads PC is a Lenovo IdeaCentre Q190 and if I switch the HDD out for an SSD, I already have the Windows 8 disk to get Windows on it... only one issue.
They Windows 8 key off his PC, how do I get that?... as there isn't a Windows sticker on the PC itself, haven't looked at the documents yet, but don't think they are there as well.

Any ideas on how to get the key off it?... thanks.

An photo of the PC in question:

Majic Jelly Bean will give you the Windows License Key if you run it before you swap the hdd to a ssd, the other option is to just clone the hdd to the ssd with something like Acronis if you have a copy of it, if not it's only about £10 and can come in handy for backups and cloning.
