Awful UI

Seems like everything is headed towards touchy feely stuff. Imagine something like this on a big coffee table in the middle of a room - could be quite a lot of fun. I think that they are dumbing the interface down so it appeals to a wider customer base. It is definitely a more lean back consumption based interaction.

Well it's great that it boots up in 8 seconds, which I can only assume that there were no other programs running at start up. The UI is horrible. It looks way too tablet optimised.

They said the UI was built around a touch screen interface. If you look at the other videos doing more advanced stuff on windows 8:

It looks pretty much like windows 7 so that's alright, I assume the tablet-style layout is optional?

The tile screen is the first screen you see then there is a tile for 'Regular Desktop' or Home I think they are calling it.

The slowest things in my Win 7 bootup is the BIOS checks and password login screen. I hope we get a chance to hit "DEL".

I like the MS Office 2007 and newer touches they added to Windows Explorer... like?... love!

But that touch splash screen while ok in function as a touch interface, visually it's just has far too much white text and in your face background colours. Even a faded colour coded band on a white background is more than enough without punching people in the face with a fist full of purple, blue, orange, etc.

The multitude of colours are a bit annoying if I think about it.

Linux is good, just not for gaming, which is what I love to do

I wonder if it's loaded the "proper" Windows desktop, or this is a shell OS, which is good for the tablets. I hope they give a way of bypassing that UI and going straight to the desktop.

the windows 8 OS works similarly to the old XP Media Centre OS, whereas the default screen was set to launch media center upon startup. but, it could easily be changed to work like normal XP.

the same applies for win8... the "TOUCH" OS can be switched off, and win7-like startups can be used instead

Unless it's built more effeciently then, there's no reason to upgrade IMO
