So when do you think we will see the vista replacement???

Whats gonna be the improvement , any thoughts???

And what about 128bit O.S whats the deal with that??

To the public, end of 2009 I spect. I really am bemused that they don`t use the marketing idea of 2010.

Probably need to buy a whole host of new hardware to install it. There`s no guarantee that Vista drivers are gonna save our arses on this one. New soundcard, new printer, new software, games ?, utils ?, will the G15 work?, who knows.

Alarmist ? Any1 guarantee all ur new stuff purchased cos ur old stuff worked 100% on XP but Vista didn`t like it, will work on this one ?

I`ll stick with Leopard tbh. Game on Windows 7 where applicable.

Win7 will be the last x86 OS from Microsoft

Looking forward to the release.

Hoping to be able to get hold of some x64 test builds before then tho :P

they've already said that drivers for vista will be compatible with windows 7.

Hopefully they will do what they have said and improve the performance. And no more DX10... DX11 will be here which from what I have read will not be a fake.

linux ubuntu anyone?

i learnt how to use it, i'm sure others can..

QFT!

Ubuntu is now my main OS on all my machines. I've since converted both my non tech-savy parents, my sister and my girlfriend to it aswell as a good few of my friends, and they all rather it to Windows. :D

Since I discovered Ubuntu I'll never use Windows as my main OS again.. :p

Put the two side by side and you'll see Linux (in general) just trashes Windows.

Apart from in games i wanna use + there are still a few annoyances

as for x86 - scrap it

people who wont have new enough hardware to run x64 will not upgrade OS anyway and the rest - well im sure pcworld will start selling x64 easily enuf

It is called Windows 7 because it is the 7th version of Windows. ;)

Linux is good but Windows still has the upper hand when it comes to gaming.

I also don't think Windows is bad/rubbish, I think it is an amazing OS (not including Vista and ME) and has changed the world in many ways.

All the luck to Microsoft, lets hope 7 is a good'un. :D

Interestingly enough it's generally a case of games not supporting Linux as opposed to Linux not supporting games. Manys a time you'll find a game that was designed for Windows works perfectly under Linux (Call of Duty 2 is one such example).

However it all really falls back on driver and application support, Linux could be a great gaming OS but isn't at the moment. Having said that there are a few windows games with Linux clients (Doom 3, Quake 4 and Quake Wars).

Anyway, on that note any Linux user that's a serious gamer should dual boot. It's one of the main reasons I'm dual/triple/quad booting my systems.

I'm pretty sure that most people on here who don't use it, don't because they cant but rather choose not too.

Personally I'd like to see OSX officially supported on the PC. That way we'd have an alternative to Windows that doesn't come in 1001 flavours, thus giving developers a better base system to work on.

Some chance tho.... :(
