Shall I?

Woah fast reply lol

Iv got two raptors coming for raid0 so i need to reinstall some form of windows :D

Well my main pc has all vista drivers for sure but perhaps not the laptop as the onboard graphics drivers may not be the best things.

Will all vista apps, games, punkbuster, utorrent etc. work fine on windows 7? Stuff like riva tuner?

Generally yes. If something doesn't work try it in compatibility mode with admin rights. It's solved any problems I have come across so far :)

cod4 punkbuster kicks me within a few seconds with api errors on win7.

i voted for installing on a spare patition/drive and dual booting

heh, i saw the same blog. i tried it, but it didn't work.

the punkbuster A service monitors the B service and just modifies/resets it while playing... making PB kick me with an api error within a few seconds

[edit]

some say win7 x86 works for them.

but i see no point in running x86 anymore, so i've not tried it myself

fraid not :(

just tried it and still got kicked with an unknown windows api error

win7 will automatically set up a dual boot menu if installed a diff drive/partition after vista

either boot from the dvd or start setup from within vista by mounting the image or unpacking it and running setup.exe

You're not alone there! People who have been trying to play COD4 and ET have all been kicked by Windows 7. This is to be fixed for sure, I remember seeing some guy who made a script to fix it, most likely didn't work though.

I have the Windows 7 as my other operating system, but I love it without a doubt.

Windows 7 is a sure good start for sure, shame they couldn't be bothered to change the Windows help file from Vista to Windows 7, although they said it's not the same as Vista :D.

Found a glitch though, rename a file or disk drive (dont press enter to save changes) and press F11 and the label should move but doesn't. Also Windows Media Player seems to be behind some of the Windows although not open?????

I will report all I find, and it's good this is an open beta.

Virtual machines are a bit tricky, since most (free) solutions don't really allow for video acceleration.

I've only used vmWare and vBox. vmWare has very poor acceleration support, vBox is a bit better and a bit faster, but a bit more unstable. And when I say acceleration here, you must think of 2% of what a DX10 card is actually capable of.

So virtualization is not really an option for games. It is a good way to get the feel of an OS without partitioning, spare drives and all that. It's also good for the business sector, where "games" means Solitaire.

Really wasn't getting Win7 to play games on it though TBH :)

VM'ing it makes it quicker for me to tweak, setup, get accustomed to it so that I know all what it does and can decide if it's a good choice to buy it or not.

Gotta say I have heard of no real issues with win7 I have come across none myselfy ther than the sill UAC gadget problem which can be fixed easily. and find it much better than vista.

even if your a little cautiouse why not just try it on dual boot....what harm can it do the worst way just reinstall your prior O.S???

I'm not touching anything MS send out there till I have a nice retail box sitting on my shelf and a lot of users saying the retail version is stable
