Will z170 ever see quad channel memory?

Anyone have an idea if this could be a reality in the future on z170 chipset? I'm abit baffled as to why x99 has it and z170 doesn't.

Thanks.

No it won't for the simple reason that the "Z" range is considered mainstream, If you want quad channel then you can pay the same amount of money and go X99 and as well as getting quad channel you get more physical cores.

It's always been this way, X79 also had quad channel where the mainstream platforms did not. Short answers:

From a practical standpoint - It is not needed on mainstream platforms. If you feel you need quad channel memory then you should probably move up to the enthusiast platform anyway.

From a business standpoint - If those are things you really want, you'll have to spend more money and go for an 2011-3 CPU and X99 motherboard.

Cause really what's the point in X99 when Z170 has all the same features and pricetags? :)

Thanks for the answers, i guess i don't really need quad channel as i mostly only game anyway. Will probs go for 2x8GB for my planned skylake build in this case

Cheers guys.

Not necessarily a lot more money though which is good, You can get a 16GB kit *4x4GB* of 3000MHZ quad channel, A 5820K 6 core and an Asus mobo for only £30 more than a good Skylake spec l.e CPU/Mobo/Mem :)
