Will this PSU be enough?

Pretency

Hi there,

I'm ordering new parts for my rig tomorrow for a much needed upgrade (as you can see in my details).

I've been told to upgrade my PSU from the 400W Eagle DR-B400ATX I currently have to this: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/185183 Antec 380 Earthwatts.

It will be powering an ASUS HD 5770 (after much thought between it and the GTS250), 2GB of DDR2 800 mhz RAM, 2 HDDs and my optical drive.

Am I going to have to fork out more, is it enough, or do I even have to upgrade?

Any feedback appreciated.

:)

to be on the safe side fella get a decent brand PSU and who told you to upgrade to a lower Wat PSU?

i would say about 550-600w to be safe as you might OC or get Xfire

something like corsair or coolermaster

I doubt I will xfire or OC it tbh. Hence why I'm not getting the GTS250. This is a mid to long range investment and my next upgrade will be a new rig altogether.

Bear in mind that my current PSU is stock. I've had this case for 5 years?

I'd go for a 500w decent brand PSU TBH, as TTL says, a corsair would fit the bill, although it depends what your budget is. At an absolute pinch, I guess a corsair 400W PSU, which is about £40 might do, but I would go for a more powerful unit.

yer but you get what you pay for fella, the PSU is something not to skrimp onis is modular tho so unless u want the 400w diablo mentiond?

The 500/600 watt OCZ stealth or mod xstream will do you fine matey and are aunder £65 (non modular 500w £45, 600w 55£ and modular 500w £55 600w £65 im using one in my set up and have re used it for around 3 or so years with no problems and used them in multiple builds for people, UNLESS your going to re use it in your next set up and you know its going to be a higher powered system (i7 + multiple gpu's for example) then go with a higher wattage corsair.

Can't argue too much with that. £65 is about the absolute max I'd spend considering the other components. Otherwise I'd argue why buy a 5770 and not a 5870 if ur willing to spend cash.

I did eye up the 500W £48 Silverpower, but didn't do any spec checking.

You might also want to consider getting a PSU with 80 Plus rating; much better if 80 Bronze.

You can't go wrong with Corsairs. Prices have recently dropped in my country; I guess this is in anticipation of new Corsair cheaper models soon to be released (CX500, CX600, GS600, etc.).
