Which PSU to buy for my Rig.

As im upgrading my rig I think I will need a new PSU. My rig will be

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 6000+ 3.00GHz Overclocked

CORSAIR XMS2 DDR2 6400 2Gb

XFX GeForce 8800 GT Alpha Dog 512MB X2 SLI

500 Gb HHD

160 Gb HHD

Floppy

Sony DVD Burner

At the moment I have a 550W PSU which looks like it is not powerful enough the rig. What do I get?

550w should be more than enough. Is the PSU you have branded?

Mhel 500w Blue at the moment. Only has one PCI-e connector.

Having been doing some research it looks like I it will need a 750 watt PSU for my rig, XFX suggest 700 watts + Any help.

Naaa, Im running my PC off a 600w. Just get a good brand 600w ish PSU e.g. Corsair.

Sorry i didnt the X2 on the GFX cards.. tbh.. 600w would be fine.. the Corsair HX620W would be my 2 pence.

700W+? You kidding me? That rig could probably run on a quality 400w. People completely overestimate how much power things take. I say Corsair HX520 or VX550

Been looking at full builds and I agree.May go for the Corsair TX 650W ATX2.2 SLi Compliant PSU.

If you got the money for it (£60!), go for a TT TR 600w, it comes with enough connectors, and will satisfy your rig and future upgrades for quite some time to come

You cant go wrong with Corsair imo. CoolerMaster's RealPower series are also very good.

Well I have chosen the Corsair HX 520W ATX2.2 Modular SLI Compliant PSU for my rig. Will be buying it in the next few days.

good choice, I am running a slightly similar set up (same board, 2.8Ghz CPU, 7900GS, few HDDs etc) and a 450w Corsair does the trick nicely, most PCs rarely need anything like the PSU you throw in them, only ever seen one PC draw more than 1k from the mains, the Great White from Scan, but then that has 3 GTX280s and all the trimmings, cost a fortune to run!
