Oh ok, then I must ask... do you plan on recording a lot with you iPad (ie. Pictures and Video), and do you plan to load it with music and movies? If yes, go with the 64Gb. I have a 32Gb iPhone 4, and even though I thought I would never use up space with pictures, videos and apps, I found myself without space. It's always nice to have more than you need, especially if price isn't a concern.

The 3G is also nice with the iPad if you like iCloud syncing contacts, documents and app data such as game saves. I don't know about the UK, but here in Canada we have WiFi towers installed with our ISP. No need for 3G or 4G anymore. We just log into our WiFi anywhere and get the same speeds as you would at home, no need for data packages. It's brilliant.

So my vote is 64Gb + 3G.

ipad 3 been anounced. Its the same dual core, but has a quad core graphics. also screen is 2048 x 1536, which will look simply amazing. however i don't expect it to be much faster than the ipad 2, they claim it to be 4 times faster than the tegra 3 chip (which is quad core) but in what respect and i highly doubt that! It'll basically be an ipad 2 with better graphics, so should run smoother and screen will be alot sharper, thats not to say the screen wasn't bad on the ipad 2.

I for one will not be rushing to get one because of the relatively minor adjustments. Oh forgot to mention the new camera 5mp capable of 1080p, which i suppose is good, but it's not the biggest selling point for me.

nonetheless if one hasn't got an ipad then by all means get the ipad 3, but if you already got an ipad 2, i don't think it's worth the upgrade.

Nonono, not "iPad 3". It's just "iPad" - don't be confusing!

One thing I don't understand about the reported specs for the new iPad relates to the core count for the GPU. I understand that it probably out-performs nVidia's Tegra system - but is it really only quad-core? It's my understanding that the GPU component of Tegra has 12 cores - is the marketing department confusing the core architecture with GPUs with the architecture for CPUs, or does the iPad GPU really have only four cores?

In essence, four cores for a CPU is good, but only four cores for a GPU is a bit underpowered, really. Is the architecture for the iPad so radically different that the core-count on the GPU becomes meaningless?

Isn't the "new" iPad a 4G LTE device? Not 3G.

It's both - it supports a couple of LTE frequencies, but will revert back to 3G when it isn't within range.

That doesn't help me in Australia of course, our only LTE network runs at 1800 MHz, which isn't supported by the iPad.

Of course, I'm perfectly happy with my Transformer Prime anyway, so I may be a it biased

I won't do much recording with it, but I do plan to use it for my music and my movies. But the price difference between 32 and 64Gb is huge, what I don't want to do is buy a 64Gb version but then not use all/most of it, it will be a waste of money, rather get a 32gb

haha yeh its just called the 'new' ipad now! It being so much greater than the tegra chip? I highly doubt it'll be 4 times faster, apple ego. The reason it has an uprated graphic on the 'new' ipad is because of the retina display. So essentially i don't think it'll be much, if any, faster than the 'old' ipad. Who knows though, i'll have to see when i test one in the apple store. I still think the transformer prime is the better buy.

My vote is to get whatever suits you size wise, and go with the 3G model. It's so much more convenient when you're at places that have expensive paid wifi (airports and train station over here spring to mind) and also when you're on the train and want to browse the internet (no wifi on trains here in Belgium).

I agree. 3G is a must, just decide your size. I believe 32Gb should be fine.

I don't know anything about the new ipad but is it gonna have an SD card if not thats kinda pathetic and I would look elsewhere (prime for example) and if you have something like an iPhone that has 3g generally you can use it as a hotspot and the ipad could just connect to it instead of having two bills on your hand

No SD card slot, but there are a tons of ways to get data to an iPad. I use Webdav for this, but something like Airsharing can use multiple protocols like ftp, normal http downloads, sftp, webdav. It would honestly be more of a hassle to load data onto a card from my pc, then plug the card into the ipad. Drag and drop to a drive letter within Windows is a great feature to have.

I personally don't really use an SD slot for transferring data from my PC to my phone / tablet. I use it to expand storage in a semi-permanent fashion.

Of course, with my 64GB Transformer Prime, it isn't really an issue

. I just like having the option.

It wouldn't hurt to have the option on the iPad, but I would never use it. Other than apps, I store nothing on my iPad. I only have the 16GB model and it's less than half full. Most media I view on it is streamed to it. Music, video etc.

32GB + Wifi + 3G.

Wifi for smooth streaming, 3G for browsing on the move then 32GB because 16GB is too small to have a satisfying app library. 64GB is too big though, anyone using local storage only is an idiot - you should only be storing apps and files you are in the process of editing on your iPad, the rest should be on your home server or other remote storage that your iPad can access. Even if someone justified a 64GB model with video editing and photo manipulation - why oh why are they rendering things on a tablet?!! 32GB iPad 2 + Wifi + 3G for best productivity (as far as iPads and the like can possibly yeild any substantial reason for existance). iPad 3 just burns itself in to a shiny fireball.
