hello there!

I was thinking lately about building a really budget gaming rig, that would allow me to wait patiently until ddr4 is fully released into desktop market.
I have managed to find a nice hawell refresh pentium cpu for a decent price, but now I need to find a mobo for it. Do you happen to know which chipsets support haswell refresh out of a box? I would be most interested in H series of chipsets, as I wont be using multiple gpus or overclocking the cpu and those mobos are cheaper that Z ones.
I would greatly appreciate your help.

Z97, h97 chipset has the Haswell refresh and Devils Canyon support out the box. ( I might have missed one of them, but the 97 chipset has the support for them.

Yes, although some manufacturers might not have put up their updates for the haswell refresh updates as of yet, although most have, eg Asus, they released the update sametime the Devils Canyon was announced.

Check before buying though if that is the road you go down.

Hmm, what troubles me though, is how am I supposed to update the bios if I don't have any compatible cpu? Ha, I guess I'll have to ask guys in the store to do it for me.

Asus boards have Bios Flashback, so you put in usb stick in certain port, and press a button while it has power but in standby mode, you don't even need a cpu installed to do it (how I installed the 0904 update for my maximus 7 hero)

That is great to hear then. I have never updated bios in my entire life, so I was a little bit concerned. but if it is so simple, then i think I might grab some cheap asus h87 mobo. BTW, do you think h87 would be best for something like pentium g3440? or would h81 or 85 be ok as well?
