Whats the best router for heavy use.

Would you need it ? Depends if you, or intend to in the future, copy files or media between pcs/laptops via the wired network - only you can answer that really.

I think I would I already stream from PC to Xbox and Nas to xbox so the quicker the better really shame about the vigor it looked like a spot on bit of kit maybe the new year will give us some updated models.

Ok its been a while but I thought I should post an update I bought an 8 month old draytek vigor 2820N for a £115 it seems like it will cover all the bases but I had a quick go at setting up but it seems far more complicated then my old netgear so to anyone with a draytek du have any advice in currently with orange as my ISP.

i have a linksys WRT54GL with tomato firmware installed.

the firmware upgrades the signal to wireless-N (instead of the original G) and increases the bandwidth from 100mbs to 2.5GBs.

it is a little workhorse

i can pick up the signal from my router 500metres away

That's simply not true....you can't make an N radio out of a G radio. Almost sounds like alchemy!

I've had a pair of wrt54gl's going over a mile with some directional antennas and an 18 story building. Was a fun project.

I've used tomato before. Started out with sveasoft actually. The last few years though I've been using DD-WRT. I use the routers mostly for point to point links. Have set them up in businesses, campgrounds, even homes to connect garages or other buildings.

Changing the firmware though won't change the radio. It's still a G radio regardless of the firmware used.
