What Would It Take?

Hey there.

So as of recently I have upgraded my power-supply which should be enough for most single-gpu cards that's within my requirements.

I'm wondering what GPU would it take to complete max out MMOrpgs @ 1080p with smooth FPS, pref 50+ FPS for the majority of the time.

I know this is a very... Generic(?) question, if it helps the MMOs that I'll be playing / am currently playing are: Tera Online, Guild Wars 2. However I also do play other games such as Battlefield 3 which I would like to very smoothly run in medium, or even high setting.

Please note that when I say max or high, I mean shadows, textures, max view distance, etc. Not necessarily anti-aliasing, as when I put AA over x4, I start to get headaches.

I'm not looking to buy a pre-owned card, even though admittedly there are some great solutions for price. However with GPUs I only feel comfortable buying brand new.

If possible try to answer the above without a price in mind. By that I mean, what do you think could run these settings above, and no more - I don't need anything that will overkill. (Example 690, X-fire 7970).

SLI / XFire is a no go as well. - Thanks in advance.

Get yourself a Gtx 560ti 448 core, You'll be happy I believe they start at 200$ if you're on a budget grab yourself a 550ti and save up for another one to run in SLI* that should be plenty for your needs, I think 1 550ti would be enough but they're so cheap you can be enjoying 1 then buy another later and get about the same performance from 1 560ti

man you really like to low ball things lol he hasnt said what psu he upgraded to but he did say SINGLE GPU and already your spouting off about sli later down the road

Just buy the fastest single card you can afford with your budget while the 560's and 550's are good budget cards imho no way will they suit what your looking for. as far as smooth play at 50+fps.

He said medium for one not "high" or "extreme", my HD 4850 does Medium 1080p BF3, 35 FPS Max 10 lowest but it's a old card so it cant really do much

a 550ti is 3x better than a HD 4850 Pretty sure he's set seeing that the 550ti is a low wattage card 2 can run on a 600W psu

well most here will agree a 560 or 550 is on the low side with the 570 being medium. Just because because your satisfied with 35fps gaming dont mean the rest are. He clearly stated 50+ and smooth gameplay up to and including BF3 I can say without reservation a 550 will not do that.

I'm with SIN here, it's all well and good saying 560 but you can get 7850s for the same price (£175) and they are like 30% faster and use so much less power...

In any case, I'd say 7950 if you've got the cash.

id say 7850 as well, or 7870 if you can afford, overclockers.co.uk has 560ti 448 gigabyte triple fan on sale for 160£ atm

Without having to asking it later on down the road you've actually answered all my questions. I had my eye on something like a 560TI 448 core, but I was a bit sketchty about it. I had my eye on a 7870 / 7950, I'm saving up so a budget isn't the problem, it's just how long until I get the <said> card.

I think my mind is settled though. Nearer to the time where I have enough funds, I'll see what's cracking between the 7870 & 7950.

Thank you for your help, it was constructive and helpful

Mitch.

Oh PS: The PSU was a TX650M (in sig)

Honestly if you're saying budget isn't a problem then why not grab a 7950 then you will be future proof beyond belief if you're not concerned with AA or having the ability to max your games out.

I would personally say go for the 7870, its a bit cheaper than the 7950 and will give you 50 plus on Battlefield on high or maybe even ultra, the extra performance the 7950 would give you I dont think you really need, I hope I have been of help to you
