What may be the cause?...

Hey guys,

So I'm not sure what caused this but a little history of the issue:

Last night I had all my 4 dimms of Corsair Vengeane LPX 16GB (4x4) in my ASUS MAXIMUS VIII FORMULA motherboard.

Now I don't quite remember if it worked before this started happening or not, but it started to boot fail... Looked at the red digital code on the motherboard, it said 55, memory not installed.

So I immediately started suspecting a dead stick... So I took 2 out and left 2 in.

Booted it up and so on... Okay, it all booted fine etc. Watched a movie and then after I got the feeling of checking Task Manager, just to see if it all were ok (since it booted up ok). Only 4GB ram, and had 2 sticks in (2 x 4). But slot 1,2 and 4 were empty. Only slot 3 had a stick.

So I shutted it down and tested each memory stick in slot 1. First stick got 55 code again, the rest booted fine. Tried them all again, just to be sure. And this time they all worked just fine? :huh:...

It all ended up with me trying them all out, some didn't work at first and some did, and in the end, I got them all "working" now... They all got detected in Task Manager as well. Even after 2 boots.

Now I also noticed that when I tried each seperately, some got a black screen with "Overclocking failed!" and when in the BIOS, the frequency was at 2133MHz and those who booted without OC fail had 3000MHz.

And I never touched anything in the BIOS, no frequency what so ever since I got them all from the shops etc.

So I have no idea now what is going on... Can the motherboard be faulty? At first I thought it was the RAM, but obviously they all work.

I had this issue as well with my X99 ASUS M WS motherboard and Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB 3000MHz.

Can this have anything to do with Windows 10 maybe?...

This is as far as my knowledge goes regarding troubleshooting etc... So any and all tips, help etc is highly appreciated!

Being serious. Happens here all the time, boards just seem to be a bit picky about how the memory is fitted now.

Promise you that if you do it properly and do it carefully ie: dont start ripping them out and banging them in it will be fine.

One of the worst things is leaving the memory in while working on the CPU etc, should always take it out now incase you might bang one of the sticks.

Ohh really? :mellow:... Feeling like a complete nobhead right now, as I've sort of always done that way :mellow:
 
I keep getting this message and I don't know why... Even though I haven't done anything to any frequency or so :mellow:

And the memory should be 3000MHz, not 2133MHz. It's rated at 3000MHz and says that on the retail box.

Memory doesnt run at rated out of the box. the 2133 is a normal thing

As for the failed bit well.... Thats because youve not set it up right :p

Ohh, so 3000MHz isn't duable then?...

And not set it up right?... I've set anything up before. I just installed it all and it worked :mellow:

What do I need to set up in correct order then? :mellow:
 
If really want to boot into windows without setting up the ram I think that hitting that memOK button on your motherboard should bring down the clocks and loosen the latencies so you can boot into windows. Else, with XMP profiles you set up the ram with two clicks

Also, why do you need two mice?? XD

Okay, so it's the XMP profile I need to adjust then?.

Umm, I don't know why it's detecting 2 mices... I only have 1 keyboard and 1 mouse plugged in lol.
 
I don't think you can adjust the X.M.P. profile, Have you try to do manual timings for the memory maybe the X.M.P. profile is screwing up somewhere.

This is why i don't trust X.M.P. i would rather do it manually X.M.P. is for the lazy person and TBH once your used to doing it manually it should only take no longer than 5 minutes too do it if not less.

I haven't done anything at all, that's the thing... I tried the XMP profile on my X99 and no change were made, so kinda see what you mean.

Although, doing it manually?... What should I then do?...

Watch this video even tho TTL used a MSI motherboard but it will give you an idea, What you need to do is set the timings on the memory set voltage and set the speed of the memory.

Have you taken down the timings and exact voltage for your ram and entered it all manually? I would imagine if it is 3000mhz ram then the timings will be pretty tight and thus if they're miles off that could affect the stability.

Yeah and the thing that annoys me is that I have no idea what you're talking about. I've never done this before :mellow:
