What is your opinion on the PNY XLR8 120GB SSD?

When I was looking around for a ssd to get I found the PNY XLR8 120GB. I am questioning the value of this ssd since I haven't heard too much about it and it doesn't have too many reviews on amazon. Since I am slightly interested in buying a couple of these, how good do you think this ssd is and do you think it is it worth buying?

A few things to point out here is that it is $88 with a $20 rebate and has a 3 year warranty with 2 year extension upon registration.

Thanks in advance to those who share their opinions and thoughts on this ssd.

Links(US): Amazon, Newegg, and PNY Product Page.

Although I'd love to buy a 840 pro or a vertex, I was looking to buy a cheaper drive since I am on about a $180 dollar budget. I wanted to have around 250GB and preferably one for the os's and one for my games and large applications.

well I would think the crucial M4 would be suitable for you then as the crucial drives gives a lot of storage for the price you pay. There's alot of Crucial M4 256GB drives for around 180$ at amazon.

Something like the m4 performs worse in terms of stats compared to the ssd I was asking about. The m4 only gets 45k/35k(4KB Random Read/Write) in which the ssd I like gets up to 60k on both?

Mabye I've misunderstood you. Reading your first and second post again makes me a bit confused. Is it so that you want a single 250GB SSD for 180$, or two seperate SSDs adding up to 250GB for a total of 180$?

I figured that I get more performance if I bought two ssd's compared to one. If I am to get two ssd's, I wanted one for my windows and linux installs and the other one for games. I wanted to get a ssd or two sdd's for a total of about $180.

Hmmmmmm well if that's the case I suggest you get one larger SSD (240-256GB ) for around that price point like the Samsung 840 250GB (non-PRO version) which I found at amazon for 178$, not as great as the PRO version but still a good performer.

If I could buy a 120g SSD here for around $87, I'd buy it.

It quotes 500/475, which is in the ball park of acceptability. (who the heck can tell the difference between that and 400/350 irl, without benchmarks anyway)

Controllers ? I'd be concerned about them if I was spending 2x$87 for 120g.

And if I were buying through Amazon, I wouldn't care if average-joe-store were the suppliers. Amazon will cover my butt.

I am glad somebody thinks the way I do about this. The drive performance is average and it comes at a decent price.
