What is better?

Would an i5 @4GHz be quicker than an i7 920 @ 4GHz? Been reading up about the Bloomfield and Lynnfield stuff. I know i5 doesn't have hyperthreading though, does this make it a lot slower?

Just found the other thread about a similar thing. So best buy would be i5 750. Either that or one of the i7 870's which are like an extra £250. 860 is much cheaper though for some reason.

£250 is outrageous for what u'll get from it. Scan had a Q9550 selling for under £150 on their Today thing - given the right circumstances, or an existing 775 setup, apart from some meaningless benchmarks, u wouldn't notice the difference.

Anywho, that's just a dose of the realities, if u already got i5/i7 onboard, the statement is worthless. :p

Yeah I know what you mean. I already have an XFX nForce 780i. Don't know how great it is compared to other 775 motherboards. Really I think sometime next year it would be logical to go to the 1156 socket in hope that the new 32nm processors will be on the same socket.

i think they do with new BOIS

Well I'm running a decent setup now but would really like to spend some money and then not have to worry about it for a couple years at least.
