What gaming pad to buy?

Hey guys, apologies for putting this in this section i hadn't realised we don't really have a section regarding peripherals so this seemed the most appropriate place.

Anyway, i'm looking to buying a gamepad as a few games recently I feel would be more fun using a pad, NFS:MW, Bioshock infinite, Sleeping dogs etc.
Any of you care to recommend a good one or is the official xbox controller for PC pack my best bet?

Thanks as always

WillSK

I just use the official xbox 360 wired pad as it's not that bad and pretty cheap.

Some people use the PS3 sixaxis pads via bluetooth :) I've not tried it but would imagine it would be another good alternative.

I don't think the xbox 360 controller for pc is any different to the xbox 360 official, unless you are getting the wireless one which requires a receiver for the pc.

yeah i was referring to the receiver version :). The other controller i looked at was the razer onza but I always hear bad things about Razer product longevity

I always hear bad things about Razer product longevity
My razer deathadder is over 5 years old (still working .. used as spare / laptop mouse)
My razer diamondback was 6 years old before it broke
My current razer deathadder is over 2 years old and still going stong

My razer pro|type keyboard is over 3 years old also

Not had any of their controllers as I don't really think the onza is much different to the official xbox 360 controller.

I've had a few, various wired XBox style, and out of them all the official XBox controller in my opinion beats them hands down. The Saitek one I bought, wouldn't even play most games. You press up it would go left then maybe up, bloody awful.

thanks for the feedback guys. I think i'm gonna go for either the Onza or 360 controller as I've never been a fan of the PS3 controller

you wot mate? seriously? i cannot comprehend this madness.
xbox pad should do it, even though i hate all gamepads in general.

Xbox 360 controller IMO is the best controller ever made.

I too hate using one but for racing games you really need a controller with analogue (I remember trying to play Grid on keyboard and just spinning out on the grid lmao).

I also use a 360 controller for playing Fallout 3 where aim isn't essential as VATS takes care of most of it once you're levelled up.

For default support? has to be a 360 controller IMO.

I hear you! for FPS i thought i'd never prefer a controller. Bioshock however i find a bit annoying on the keyboard. Z to look down sights etc. it just doesn't feel right!

Map it to your mouse.
I had search/action and melee mapped to my side buttons and iron sights mapped to middle mouse/scroll wheel it made it so much easier than the default set up. Not that you actually needed iron sights, the cross hair was better than 90% of the iron sights.

As for the game pad I'd go with the wired 360 controller, they're cheap as chips and work right out of the box. I've been using mine for xbox and pc gaming for about 3-4 years and it's still going strong.

Don't bother with the Onza, it will break within a few months. I'm a fan of Razer, but my friend has already gone through two of them in less than a year. Either the official 360 controller or the replacement for the Onza (Razer Sabertooth) are you best bets.
