What do you do in emergency computer situations?

So this being a computer enthusiast thread, we all abuse our hardware pushing it to it's absolute limits. Because of this components break. But I bet most of us use that same computer we abuse as also our work/school computer. So what do you do to assure you are back and running after a component breaks?

For me I have a temporary backup of every component.

Here is a list of my back up parts.

CPU AMD 965

GPU Radeon 5770

RAM 4gb super talent 1333

Motherboard Crosshair formula III (which i am currently using because my sabertooth has issues)

use daughters rig til mines back up and running hers is a dawg though 3GHz LGA775 32bit rig running XP and sporting a GS8400

New/old laptop, iphone, parents computer (which technically is my old pc) and soon to be (well hopefully not!) my brother's pc.

use a laptop . but tbh hellfire NEVER broken down in almost 3 years ... i must say nevr had a computer fail on me other than a psu going POP .

always bought tidy components and its paid off unlike my dads budgt built pc with gpu failure and 2 psu deaths

Everything I get is all top notch. But sometimes you get that one bad egg. My asus saber tooth lasted me a whole 6 hours.

Depends which PC it is. I had my server's PSU go dead a few weeks ago (thermaltack grr...) which took out an old 9800GT, but I had a spare 400W PSU and low power GPU (8400GS) kicking about for testing. Next day I drove to Aria. On the other hand I had the behemoth go down a week and a bit ago, and then I was really screwed (all my work was on it), so I had to test each GPU in the other PC (both of which are watercooled), test the sound card etc. Then use the laptop to order a new MB.

Then again even at Uni I always have a few PCs spare. Once I upgrade my behemoth, shuffle the parts into the server, shuffle those parts into the PC I'm lending to my girlfriend's brother and shuffle those parts into my little pc case which can act as an internet connection sharer. But personally the scream option (soiling optional) is generally the first.

I generally dangle the remains of the last PC that failed me in front of the troublesome one, it usually gets the message and starts working after that.

Actually, as per my sig, I have numerous PC in various roles which can be used as backups if need be. I still have my old AMD 4200x2 built into a nice little Antec 300 case all working fine - stuffed full of older 120 - 200mb HDDs wot I use to back stuff up to periodically. It was my gateway PC for years and can revert to that role again quickly if need be.

Additionally, in my old black iCute case (actually, not bad looking for cheap) I have a Pentium IV 3.4ghz HT based system with an old radeon something-or-other card in it. It's a good, working machine hower I have no use for it lol. Still, it's tidier to have the parts assembled rather than loose
