What difference is there in duel channel?

when i put my memory in duel channel, my computer crashes n freezes n skrews up, when its in single channel it is fine...n i have the Nforce4 Ultra Dboard... but also what difference (if it worked) would duel channel make from single channel memory?

Dual channel effectively gives you twice the amount of memory bandwidth... BUT, the difference between single and dual channel is rather small unless benching with something specifically designed to jam your memory bus and take advantage of the additional bandwidth given to you buy going with a dual channel setup.

BUT if you actually read the stickies in the DFI forum: they'll tell you how to get your memory working in D Chan. For gods sake Ian - please do it

right...wel...ok, i will later...and i HAVE read them, but it mentions nothing important bout duel channel.......also somthing to mention i went on microsoft games advisor, and my new p.c performs the same as my old one :( it sed it was the same in comparison to the dell p.c's and to the alienware, it was in EXACTLY the same place :(....right...i was also thinking, i could put my 1 gig of v-data ram in too....whats anyones opinion on that? have the OCZ and the V-Data running alongside eachother

EDIT: i have found another problem, the motherbord needs more power, n i dont have another floppy cable :( cos it needs one...i never pluged one in before though...thats probably why it is unstable...i need a molex to floppy converter to fix that otherwise it wil keep crashing, can anyone tell me why it needs a molex, a floppy, 24 pin standard, AND a 4 pin?! y does this motherbord need so much power?! its mad!

Mate you need to go configure the RAM timings and stuff in the BIOS.

You NEED to plug in a floppy mate...I just disconnect mine and I bought a molex to floppy lead in case I need it. Most retailors stock them.

Use the setup guide for NF4 here and edit the BIOS settings. Nick you said you were gonna help him? Please do!! :)

what does the floppy connector actually do? cos it seems to work fine without it...i jsut keeps crasin now n then...

n i wil ava look at that link...and its a bit hard to comunicate with nick ,when the only p.c within 3 floors that works is the one i am workin on...and i tihnk it sed the ram timmings were 3-5-7-9 or somthing similar

i would have more chance understanding gibberish than that link! it makes less than 0% sense to me!:(

|3ourne you're an expert...you know what your doing. He needs to do it by the book until he gets it running.

Please don't encourage him...

Thou - you rule ;)

can i ask why you went and bought the most difficult motherboard to setup, when you do not no very much, you would have been better off get a gigabyte or and asus where you would not have troubles like this ;)

maybe so...but a asus would no-doubt show a decreased performance from a lanparty...

i jsut did 3d mark scores on it...i cant remember exactly, but the 3d mark 03 was summet like 2000, and 3d mark 05 was 1700 or close too... :(...thats disapointing cos even my 3000+ could beat that...maybe its the graphics card....

3dmark03 uses a good blend of cpu / gpu power whereas 05 is geared towards torchering your graphics card primarily. So if you've got a good proc and a so-so gfx card ur gonna get raped in 05. In 03 you'd notice better reults in comparison to 05 with the same aformentioned setup.

i'm home now, i can upload the scores....but there really disapointing :(

1233 in 05

and

3255 in 03

i got 2751 in 05 with my 3000+ and 9800pro, surely the 6600 is better than the 9800?

right, as has probably already been mentioned, dual channel effectively doubles your menory bandwidth..but you rarely notice a rise in real world performance

the floppy connector is somewhat similar to the 4 pin connector on most intel boards, but i guess Dfi must use the floppy connector for some reason i dont know..i profess to now nothign abut DFI so i wont even make a guess..all i kjnow is, that some crap amd boards, primarily PC-CHIPS, use the 4 pin to supply CPU, NB and other power sources...maybe the floppy connector has somthing to do with your dual channel problems, butl iek i say, i know ntohign about the 64 bit spec, and nothing about dfi, so i apologise if im talking crap

and that rig or yours hasnt really been set up fully yet, its just got basic drivers on for everything, no overclocking on your cards, etc..dont be too surprised that the 3d scores are low

p[lus, a 6600 isnt really much of a poweful card..get a 6800 ultra or somthing, and see the difference

yea i know, but i dont have any other threads i could use...so i decided to make this the official ionicle computer problem thread...that means it wil grow very big lol, and as for duel channel i wont bother, it works fine in single channel so i wont change it

NickS_ PWNZ ALL

my ram now works...in duel channel...and the bios is all set redy to overclock, all thanks to nick :D so ...weldone nick u pwn! lol
