I have a 9800 pro currently, I get some slowdown in CS source with lots of people on screen and on some other games. Suggestions? I was thinking x800xl, but id have to wait and see if an agp verison came out. I dont want to spend too much, looking for a decent upgrade but I dont need a 6800 GT.

I upgraded from 9600XT to 6600GT-AGP. So far i think it's worth the buy if u dun need 6800GT.

But will it do what i want? My 9800 pro is pretty fast OC'd....

Basicaly what angers me is that on some maps in CS:S, I get some slowdown and I cant aim for shit when my fps goes below 30.

I also notice slowdown in d3 and some other games i play, in high action areas.

???

I wouldn't go for the $400+ priced cards right now. A 9800 is good and you should probably wait for the next series of cards to blow $500 on. If you really need a new card, go for a x800 xl. Those things are a really good bang for the buck with 16 pipes, good ocing, and probably some soft/hard modding if you need it.

well in d3 the 6600gt comes VERY close to the 6800 so you shouldnt have a problem there, dont know about cs:s, should be ok

Here we go: http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum-replies.cfm?t=291353

"Just got my Leadtek 6600GT AGP :). I did some testing In CS:S I get about 85fps and in HL2 I get about 60fps and HL2 really stutters in heavy action which is really pissing me off. I'm running 1280x1024 4xAA 4xAF OFF everything else on high and directx9c and Detonator 67.03 Drivers."

But then:

"Edit - Bios upgrade on my motherboard stopped the stuttering (mostly) now running 4xAA 4xAF. Now's it's time to save for more ram..."

And the little bit of stuttering he gets now is most likely caused by the rest of the setup:

XP 2600+ < hmm

512MB Generic Ram (Duel) < more hmm

6600gt

Gigabyte 7N400 PRO

PSU 300W < even more hmm

If I was on $200 I'd definitely go for the 6600 gt agp. I remember when they released it, it had significant performance increases from 6600 pci-e. :rollingla

You should oc your 2600 though. Also, valve didn't ever fix the stutters at all in HL2 so that's the games fault. If you run emporios, you'll get no stutters.
