How strange, mines never made a peep. But i use mine for films, music documents and stuff so it's nearly always in use, probably why its dying. Thanks for your input Josh.

My experience with WD had been brilliant. 6 Days after they received my faulty drive I received my replacement drive (bloody early in the morning!) which I thought was VERY VERY fast. Western Digital all the way.

Have dozens of 2tb greens, and a handfull of blacks/blues.
There was a period of the EARS drives where bad batches appeared to have been distributed. 2 out of 3 of 1 order failed in quick succession for me. EARS have been more recently replaced with EARX models.
Always will buy WD myself.

I received another WD Green 5400 RPM drive yea. Its a refurbished drive but as long as it lasts I don't mindThat is awesome to hear. Was the replacement the same drive?
Yea it was an "EARS" drive that failed on me too. although my replacement is a refurbished "EARS" Drive so hopefully it will be ok this time.

Yup, as long as it's working and does so for a considerable amount of time, it's all good.
I dont know if anybody else has mentioned this as I havent read all comments..
but from my experience, if you buy from the cheaper lines and have your computer on almost 24/7 then they tend to be worn out faster..
I bought 2 x 500 gig seagate (I think it was seagate..) drives beucase they where cheap, within 3 months both started making alot of noise and one failed completely..
if you buy more expensive drives that are rated for 24/7 use, from my experience, you wont have an issue..
I have all WD drives, and have never had one fail and have 2 x 500gig that are still running after 3 years..
(also have a 6 or 7 year old maxtor which is still working..)

I was going to purchase a WD Green drive initially but the £100 for a 2 TB Black was too tempting.
I have been running WD Caviar Blacks in my system with NO issues over 4 years. They run 24/7 and I continually read / write to them. No issues at all. I going to go to SSD for my operating system, but plan to keep the Blacks as backup storage.

My Caviar black has been on 24/7 since I started folding in December last year, with no issues at all (touch wood)

I've just had a WD green (3tb) fail on me too. I love WD and this is the first drive that has failed on me but I can't help wishing that I'd got a black instead of trying to save the world...but I think that we were both unlucky and greens are fine.
