Recently installed the extra stick of memory, new mobo, and processor, and a new windows install. If I wait about 5 minutes after booting into windows and do ANYTHING intensive at all (even just opening up system info) the system hangs for a second, and then the screen goes black. (no video). Very weird, does not just reset. I dont have a CPU temp reset, and I do not think its overheating (when i restart and check cpu temp, its at 26 degrees celsius). I underclocked the memory to 100 mhz, put it on 2t timing, and cas 3.......didnt make an affect. Changed the PSU to one with more power (400w, 17a on the +12v). No difference.

Suggestions?

Does it run fine when you pull out the newly added memory? If so, you've found the problem!

If not, then it sounds like your mobo or vid card is about to take a shit on your chest. My bets are placed on the vid card right now if taking out the new ram doesn't work. Tried changing vid drivers?

Installing anything will make it crash, theres no video drivers even installed.

I just realized something odd though, it ran PERFECTLY when I installed windows......which is very odd, becuase if there was bad ram or something would it not crash while formating and installing? Thats fairly processor and ram intensive.....very odd.

My friend did take it home for half a day before this happened, and connect it to the internet....im thinking about formatting it. First ill swap t he vid card with an old geforce 3 i have though, or maybe a pci geforce 2, a nd try different ram

Still, it seems like formating and isntalling windows XP would be more processor intensive than just starting the system information tool.

understand that it takes so much processor power just to emulate a video display on screen....which isnt done when in DOS install mode :)

I agree. I had a similar problem in the past during Windows installation . I figured out I had bad memory by running Memtest86.
