weard GPU memory issue

hey peeps,i have a 9800gtx 512 and when i play gtaIV it says i have 489mb???,now when i had my gtx260 that showed 896mb so in theory all then GPU memory and i could use it all aswell,i have just Ran the online program 'CAN YOU RUN IT' and it showed that i have 1.3Gb of GPU memory buts that seriosly not correct.

now i no you cant go off them things and i have taken into account that some of my RAM might be seen as GPU memory,but the thing with GTAIV is just odd.

can any one shed some light ont he situatio,i know its time for a upgrade GPU wise but in time lol

Hmm not sure why it would show less. And sometimes things get confused and show you have dedicated video memory way higher than you card shows but I'm not sure about the GTAIV issue... I'll tell you one thing though, I wish SLi meant you doubled your video ram. That would be nice.

It's normal with GTA, if you haven't updated to the latest patch it won't recognize all the VRAM. It does use it though.

The new patch has better "Memory Management" apparently.

The new patch does makes the shadows prettier. I didn't notice much of a gain but I certainly didn't notice any drops in performance so it's a win/win.
