Yh but I quite like 4.8ghz and it does not go into 1.4v so I'll stay put at this clock.... Its averaging 65c which is 7-8c better than the d14

but the 1st 30mins on load it didn't go past 55c so it gets a bit warmer as the water heats up.... I'll probs never stress the CPU for more than 30min at a time anyway so alllll good

I have the exact same Z68 motherboard as you. Since this is the first time configuring my own system how would I set my CPU for 4.5GHz stable? At the moment my BIOS settings are on Optimal default with AHCI enabled for better SSD performance, and also my RAM is on XMP Profile1 to enable 16000MHz...

I have EK Supreme HF CPU Block

What should I alter in the BIOS?

I wouldn't go head first into 4.5Ghz if I were you: try 4.2, prime an hour, 4.3, prime an hour, 4.4, prime two hours, then 4.5 and prime 5 - 8 hours for final stability test. Look around on the net, see what other people have used to get to certain speeds. Get an idea for a rough average of what volts you need and how to balance the multi with the BUS.

In theory, if you are overclocking 100Mhz at a time then your voltage to get there will be:

(You'll need to do a moderate overclock to get a voltage to compare with, at least 500Mhz)

Current voltage at +500Mhz from stock - stock voltage and then divide by how many 100Mhz the overclock was (so 5 in this case) then multiply that by how many 100Mhz you will be overclocking from stock, (so 3.4Ghz stock to 4.5Ghz overclock means you need to multiply by 11 (1100Mhz overclock).

So, from start to finish:

3.9Ghz overclock voltage minus 3.4Ghz stock voltage = difference divide the difference by 5 to give you voltage per 100Mhz then multiply by 11 and add to stock 3.4Ghz voltage to give you the theoretic voltage for 4.5Ghz.

100x45 or 200x22.5 seem the most obvious roots to go down but do some of your own research first.
 
Meh, go for the 4.5ghz, 99.9% of 2500/2600K's will do 4.5ghz no sweat it's only when you go above 4.5ghz you may have probs or need high volts.

Try just setting the multi to 45 and see if you can get 4.5ghz on stock volts, I have read a few people with UD7's that can without having to change any other settings. If you can't start at 1.25v and see if you can boot into Windows, if not try 1.2550v and go up 0.050v until you can so 1.2550v 1.26v 1.2650v and so on until you can boot into Windows and run stable.

For BIOS settings manually set your RAM timings, frequency and voltage enable PLL voltage, set duty and phase control to extreme. I'm not sure about LLC because it's different on Gigabyte boards and I have a Asus.

The above is just a guideline you may need different settings or higher volts just experiment and find the best config you need, it also depends on how good your CPU is as well as all CPUs are different and some will overclock better than others.

How are Gigabyte's LLC settings different to Asus?

That the amount of LLC is different or the actual function is different for Gigabytes?

No probs, i'm just adding what I know I wouldn't intentionally try and replace what someone has said.

On the Asus boards, mine anyway, there are different levels for the LLC: Auto, Regular, Medium, High, Utltra High and Extreme but on the Gigabyte ones 10% 20% etc and I don't know what % equals what setting on the asus so in stead of guessing I thought it would be best for him to find the setting that works the best.

You're right, it would - I only have auto, enable and disable on my AM3 Asus - maybe not the Bulldozer/ Ivy Bridge gen but the gen after that, if AMD don't get their act together with overclocking I'll go Intel for my next build.

1.32v in bios with load line calibration 6 (level 6) rock stable at 4.5ghz

What would I have to do to keep it at that clock speed? Would you recommend that I should also disable C1E and EIST? Anything else? Turbo boost?

Something else that I found curious was your Loop layout. I have a similar EK Supreme HF CPU water block, but my intake is on the left whereas your pipe on the left is directly connected to the radiator? Is it necessary to follow the manual or is it just optional, since my manual guide says the left side is intake?
 
You should have all of those disabled. When you disable them make sure you re-apply the Overclock.

My look layout is res/pump>radiator>CPU>res/pump
 
Btw I changed the xspc res/pump I have for a Laing DDc ultra with the xspc restop......and I have to say on the antivibe mounts.....I can't hear it and it's a monster

Loop order is the same but layout is different as I had to mount the pump in the HDD racks. So there's tubing everywhere now. I'm gonna try make it look better today....I'll keep you all posted

The loop layout is not that bad, it was the only way to do it but on a plus side changing the pump fron the xspc 750 respump to the laing ddc ultra with xspc res top = 100x more quieter and reduced temps by about 5c

Bravo, that's looking really nice.

You've even got the option to put your GPUs underwater without messing up the loop, just add a 120 at the back and a waterblock.

Hey, few questions. 1:Could you tell me how to do this to my own bitfenix? 2:Which is better Sound Card: Creative's Titanium and Fatality series OR Asus Xonar D2x and Xonar Essence?
