Water Cooling Liquid

LOL! That would be some product endorsement, wouldn't it? Watching the MD get in a bath full of the stuff and then someone chucking a running hair dryer in. I would pay to see that.

my friend uses the Car coolant (Servo) with some additive.. is it safe ?? he gets great temps.

will it damage the rad n pump ?

If the coolant is for a car radiator then it should be fine. I hope the "additive" isn't petrol or windscreen washer lol :)

LOL ofcourse its a car-rad coolant :p , so i just add some of this coolant to Distilled water, n i will be good ??????

aright n some Anti-algue drop (2-3) :D..

thx, i got my one of my biggest ques sorted out thru the thread :D

Hope it doesnt prove bad for my Rad n pump in long run ??

Hi WC pros.

Has anyone here tried moving away from water based coolant & swapped it out for oil?

I've got the usual sort of setup: DD Maze4 CPU + GPU block, twin 360 BIP rads with 6x 240v 120mm Papst fans in pull configuration, self-made plexi-res. My setup's partially run in 15mm copper with reinforced plastic tubing for attaching to blocks.

My thinking is that the oil being naturally adept at heat transference, will be great for carrying the heat away. I also won't have to worry about corrosion. And in the (cross fingers) event that I may spring a leak, my precious understated hardware should'nt go fizz-pop!

I guess the deciding factor is the choice of pump. I've taken a chance & grabbed a 1750l/hr Hailea pump on eBay. It's a monstrous lump & in bath tub tests I had a cracking time drying off the ceiling, lol.

I'd be grateful for any advice from ppl who have tried oil in the past, ie. pros & cons.

You'd need a pump designed for the oil, as it would just clog up a normal water pump.

Thanks for your help Ham.

I've got a Hailea HX-6530 which is designed for aquarium use & has a 2.3 mtr head. I doubt i'll get any useful recommendations out of the manufacturer, just wondering if anybody has used their pumps/systems for pushing oil.

This pump's pretty hefty so I was thinking i'd be alright with a low-viscosity oil. You think it could work:eh:

You do not need anything in your loop besides water and algaecide. If you want color, buy a dye.

Over at XS, quite a few people reported slime collecting everywhere from using FluidXP, and multiple members reported very poor temps. Stay away from premixed coolant if possible.

A nice bit of H²O and some Xerex/UV dye imo :D

The zerex is actually not needed, because its purpose is to serve as an antifreeze. Antifreeze is used in cars because it can slow galvanic corrosion, and because cars go through extreme temperatures.

I'm a big fan of bling :) There are concerns about dyes that are safe to use, and so far, Jab-tech, D-tek, and FrozenCPU dyes are good ;) If you want to know where I got this from just visit XS ;)

I do visit XS occassionally but tbh it's too big and I find quite a few people thoroughly unhelpful there.

Anyhoo I never use pre-mix and have found that Zerex and UV dye does me well. No corrosion and looks sweet :D

Hehe I love how big it is, just gives me more people to reply to!

In a copper/brass/nickel only loop, galvanic corrosion really isn't an issue. Oh yea, it'll eat through in about, 100 years :D I'm not only a fan of bling, but a fan of cheap so sparing the extra bucks on the pentosin or zerex and whatnot is even more appealing.
