if your thinking about getting Vista but are not sure about performance or compatibility .. keep your XP .. but .. just make it look like vista :p

http://www.crystalxp.net/galerie/en.id.130.htm

for a simple 27.64MB download it will completely change the look of your XP ;)

you will have the new menu bar look, new icons, new sounds, new loading screens, even the rocketdock.

im currently using it on my system and its great. the sleek look of vista BUT the performance and compatibility of XP .. you can also modify what you want to run (turn on/off rocketdock, turn on/off shaders etc)

Before I begin downloading this, can it be uninstalled returning the computer to it's original state?

If not, will a system restore work if I create a checkpoint before installing this?

the XP look is getting old now :( .. was a massive step forward from Windows 98 and the like but im getting board of it

been running this for a few days now ... very nice :p

on the link above there are number to choose from .. but i prefer the inspirat 2 :p

ohhh yess ... its basicly like an .exe .. theres an uninstall option which will just remove it like an application and make ur pc restart and then normal xp will be back on :D (tried it the yesterday to see what it would do)

you can also download new icons, software, graphics etc from this page > http://www.crystalxp.net/galerie/en.htm

Ace, thanks! I'll give it a go.

Hopefully this will aid my transition to Vista as and when I decide it's the right time

I don't like the childish blue of XP.. so I like the 98 theme. :)

You know the grey blocky look.

Easy on the eyes too.

Horrable? Nope... it is perfect, simple high performance and no childish looks. :)

Perfect!

Should never have changed it.

Windows now is all about looks and not the actual performance. I mean Vista itself is a mess.

I hate it.. just XP with a new GUI and a ram hungry kernel.

Not my cup of tea.

Tox 4 Classic! :D

I have been using this for months and it runs fine, I wouldnt install it if you want to return XP to its original state mind as I have tried this before and it got a bit messy.

well i would like the performance of 98 but i really couldnt stand looking at the bland 98 setup  shame vistaxp dont work on 98 :p

I dont think 98 had any performance gain over XP.

I think its just more resourceful on RAM but everyone has atleast 1gb nowadays.

resourceful of RAM yes but xp has lots of little extras which add up like the font shaders etc but as you said most people have 1GB or more RAM and wont notice a difference

Whoopsie!!! Too late now:o

well if it does ever go all wrong when installing im sure system restore will bring back what it used to be or use the 'good last known configuration' option when the pc is loading (if you have the option)

Ah, I wouldn't worry about it too much. It's about time I did a fresh install on this machine anyway.

Fingers crossed I don't have to though

Get windows XP balck its not just as theme like this its a whole new opperating system i have it on a new hard drive to check it works and i have not had one problem! You need a windows XP product key for it though.
