Vista Adoption Now... A Big Mistake?

Think there`s been 2 films atleast about the evil gates. The one mentioned got the most publicity I reckon. Then there`s books.

i cant read, so the films will do. On a similar note, just found a pic of a super computer. Looks wicked!

I watch Pirates of Sil Valley about once a month, great great movie. It's now kinda fun to watch Steve Jobs give keynote speaches on new products as he's just so much older and more mature than back in the day. He was a straight hippy nut back when he was a startup.

That`s one of them instances where the museum guide takes u to one side and shows u the c2d that can do the same thing :p :p

* Vista may be the best reason yet to buy a Mac

Years ago, "switching" from Windows to a Mac was nearly impossible for most people. We relied entirely on desktop applications, many of which had no equivalents on the Mac platform. Today, so much of what we do is online -- and Apple has done such a good job of making the transition easier -- that leaving Windows and moving to a Mac is perfectly doable for most people. It's a real choice now, and mostly a matter of preference.
Most of the new features in vista are from osx tho

Swap to a Mac because of Vista?

The author made some fair points in that article (e.g. driver availability, DX10, etc) but then really let himself down by saying

Consider switching to a Mac if:

You're not into PC gaming.

You don't have any Windows-only applications you'd still like to run without emulation.

You don't have major PC hardware investment -- such as expensive flat-screen LCD displays -- to take advantage of.

You don't have non-Mac applications that are required by your employer for working at home.

That's like saying...

Consider walking if:

You can't drive.

You don't have enough money for public transport.

You're only visiting your friend who lives next door anyway.

That's not exactly true.

His statements aren't exactly that accurate either tho.

Gaming - Mac has OpenGL + OpenAL etc (same as linux) | Also you can use crossover/darwine (which are not emulators)

Windows Only Apps - You don't use emulation as crossover+darwine aren't emulators (the age old WINE thing Wine Is Not a Emulator) | you can also use VMWare or Parallels

Flat Screen LCD Displays - All new macs have DVI+VGA support don't they?

The major flaw in his software statement is you can boot windows using bootcamp & play games + run programs natively

sorry to rain down on the parade but the only thing that has annoyed me with vista ultimate is the let down on my wifi on my mobo besides that i must have had luck with the componets i bought .

Usualy what happens is after about a year everybody has the new Windows anyways. So these kinds of threads are pointless.

just put ultimate onto my pc, runs wells, even found some drivers for my tv card that run well. It may just be me, but i think browsing the internet seems quicker. I know it shouldnt but it just does.

64 or 32bit mate?

32 bit, running on a p4 2.8 @ 3.1 with 1gb of dodgy ram. Even allows me to use the aero theme on a radeon 9600 :s

I'm not sure if anyone with vista can confirm this, but supposedly vista has a feature the same as apple's Exposé, but there are reports it cannot be used/accessed unless you have the latest intellipoint drivers. So it's locked to microsoft only hardware.

Seems yet another monopoly by microsoft if it is true tbh :(

The only article I can find so far is one from 2006. But it does give the impression that microsoft are promoting it as an innovation in it's mice, when really it's just the actual software.

New Microsoft mice copy OS X's Expose

There are some funny comments with people who don't know too much :) but the article at least mentions microsoft have yet again copied another idea and re-badged it as their own :(

I looked on the microsoft site, but can't find anything on the intellimouse software other than where to download it  :(
