Vapochill LS OR Mach II GT for FX-60

Hey all,

I'm new to this forum but not to overclocking. For some time i have been looking

at Vapochill LS and Prometeia Mach II GT but cant make a clear choice. So since Mach II maker is gone belly up Vapochill a better choice?

My current setup is an AMD x2 4400 now and am planning on upgrading to an FX-60 when they come available .

What is the wattage for a dual core cpu like the 4400 and FX-60 ?

Is the vapochill able to handle these chips?

I read the review on both but would like some imput from people that use these units.

Mach2GT for me- the LS doesnt have an easy upgrade path for regassing etc. Big Phil sells the Mach2s, so supply isnt really a problem. They should both in theory handle the chips, but for the best handling, the units should be tuned.

If you could buy an old LS it would be better as the older models were designed to take up to 250w i think whereas the newer ones have been brought down to mach 2 levels of ~200w.

This is fine and as good as you'll get but under high volts and load temps usually manage to push into positive temps especially with the new FX57's and i expect the FX60 to be just as bad if not worse.

Your best bet would be to go for the Chilly1 from the store and try and get it tuned to a higher heatload which those chips will give out

I doubt that an LS would be able to cope with 250W of heatload even a brand new gt cant cope with 210W I have tested a brand new gt which in my opinion is better than the LS new or old and it wont do it if you regass and tune the unit it can if you add a new version chilly1 head to it can extremely well

For a great balance between performance and price I would go for the MACH2 GT and regas it to R507 tuned to 210w of heat removal.

What is the Chilly1? Is that the home made version or do they sell a complete kit?

As i was writing this post i bought a MACH II GT with a Lian Li case all aluminum for $750!

Dont know if that is a good deal or not but better than paying $899 for a standalone MACH II GT!

Anyway I have been reading various post here for about 4 hours now and am conviced that i want the CHILLY1 mod !!

How do i get a Chilly1 mod? What does it cost?

Unless the place you bought your Mach from can do the Chilly1 mod I'd say run the system as it is at first and get use to phase for a bit. If you like it and decide you'd like more power you can have the mod done at a latter stage.

Yes try the system at stock first if you haven't used phase change before then play around with it as is get used to it then see if you still want to mod it

Yup, I`m with Zax and Skinny. Its hard to see the benfit of the C1 head until you know what the standard setup can do

Don't know if I agree or disagree with modding it first.

Obviously there's the benefit of massively colder temps, but there's also the benefit of a really nice mounting system.

Tough call really. But being the voice of addiction to massively cold temps, and NOT the voice of reason 8) I say get it modded

Depends where you live and who you know as to how much it'll cost if and when you do decide, but I'm sure there's someone close enough to you that can. Just be careful who you choose. Sometimes you're better off paying more and getting it done by someone that's proven.

Whether you get it modded or not though, there's nothing like freezing a cpu and getting the max out of it

Personally though, I'd say to stick to the Mach2 over the Vapo, if only that if you end up deciding to mod it for the best temps, it's less expensive to get more from the Mach2 than from the Vapo, as it really takes a new compressor to make the Vapo better and that's an expensive component.

Cant wait to get the unit, already itching to get my cpu OCed to 3GHz,:O

Right now its @2500 -250 x10, if it gets 3 GHZ :O mabey i won't want an FX-60

Nope! I choose to use dielectric grease and conformal coating, but i`m a big wuss. Most of the others dont use anything in the socket at all

Don't use that nasty white stuff in the socket! I would HIGHLY advise using some dielectric grease - especially if you don't want condensation and corrosion issues!

I have seen pins fall off due to a lack of grease - not worth the risk IMO.

Where can i get dielectric grease? Do most local hardware stores cary it ? Or mabey Home Depot , Lowes Or radioshack?

Or will I need to get some online?

Do the pins need to be completely covered ? and not the socket?

Just dip the cpu pins in it and then set the cpu?

*EDIT* Never Mind , LOL most autoparts stores have it ! Any Particular brand or type, should be the question?

Any dielectric grease will do. Heres what I do, seal string around the socket and dielectric grease inside. Don't be scared just fill all those little holes.

Some people report residue forming on the back of the board so i stick on a thin layer of seal string there too.
