UT60 or Monsta rad?

Hi everyone,

Im currently upgrading my rig with liquid cooling, but I'm doubting between two different rads. Normally I'd choose the bigger one if possible, but because of space constriction I'm kind of worried about sound production.

Here is my situation:

Case: Corsair 600t white
Rads: Alphacool 360mm UT60 or Monsta
Fans: Corsair SP120 QE
Location: Hard drive / drive bay location

Here is the situation with the Monsta rad in place:

Now as you can see it's a perfect spot for a radiator like this. On the second picture you can see that the lower fan is covered for 40% and I'm affraid that this might create sound from the air trying to sneak past the sharp mesh.
Now the fans them self don't make a lot of sound at all but it would defeat it's purpose if you can hear the air flow through the mesh.

The other option would be to use the UT60 with a cut out fan to create some space between the mesh and the fans.

I prefer the monsta rad for both looks (and most likely preformance) but I hate to put my loop together and find this out the hard way.

Have you considered dremeling the mesh/front panel out? It will be hidden by the filter panel. There must be a way to fasten the rad without it. (rad grill, brackets etc)

I have considered this but I don't believe it will be a clean cut. If it doesn't create any sound I rather keep the case in one piece (dremeled out the top though....)

well if you go for a bigger rad you dont need fans at full power that on its own will cut the sound down i think nrg has the right idea dremel it out and fit a rad grill thay dont cost much and look the muts nuts done well

Buy the case and fan(s) then find out if the fan makes any extra noise in that position. Then buy whatever rad would be better for you based on what you find out.

The only way you would notice any difference between radiator thickness is how fast you need the fans to run to get good temps. If the fans run at the same speed on both rads you shouldn't really notice a difference in noise between them.

I'm not talking about the movement of air inside the rad but having the fans against the front of the case with the lower part being covered. ;-)
I remembered the 200mm made an annoying airflow sound because of the mesh. This are different fans though so it might not be the same case.

I do wish to just run them at 12v. I guess it comes down to just fitting them and trying it out before hooking it up (stupidly didnt think of this before >.<).

You guys recon it's going to be a large improvement of cooling capacity when cutting out the front?
Or ut60 with more air space vs monsta like in the pictures ;-)

My apologies, must have read it wrong.

Only way to know if the noise will annoy you is to try it out with the radiator that is already there. Still can't imagine the monsta making much of a difference over the UT60 if they are both 3x120mm rads. The monsta should have more cooling capacity though, more area for the air to flow over, ergo larger surface area for heat exchange.

well the bigger rad will give you more cooling head room

you could fit the rad in the front of the case and then fit one set of fans on the back of the rad that way you dont get the fan sound and wen you get dust in the rad you dont need to pull a set of fans off just to give it a dust out ?
