USB power options

OK guys here's the deal. With my old PC when I shut it down the USB ports still supplied power. That meant I could leave my Iphone 4 always plugged in charging (so I can play Fallout Shelter on it when I fancy it) and so on.

Well now I have got a new cordless mouse and the batteries keep dying on me because obviously when I am using the mouse I can't charge it and when the PC shuts down I can't charge it either. I really don't want to have to have my entire PC on just to charge it.

Does any one know if this is a setting that can be changed in bios please? thankfully the mouse does work wired but after getting used to it and falling in love with it wireless it feels horrible with the wire in the back !

This. Did you by any chance have a Gigabyte motherboard before this? I guess the Alienware one (Dell OEM?) does not have this feature.

Erm. I was using a RIVE before this (Rampage X79) and before that I was using an MSI BBXPII and both just did it out of the box.

I think my wife's Giga X79 UD3 does it too....

I will have a poke around in the bios later, given you guys say that it should be a feature

I made the observation with a gigabyte board that when I enabled ACPI State S6 for power off that usb loading was not possible. If you have something like 0V power off or S6 power off mode in the uefi try to disable it and see if it helps.

I have disabled UEFI because it did not work with my OS SSD (I have an Asus RAIDR).

I looked in the bios and the only power option I could find was "Recover AC". So I enabled it.

Don't think it's going to work but won't know until I have shut down the rig.. Bit of a pain really.

Hmmm I do remember this being a Gigabyte specific feature during the Z68 days. I guess the rest has just silently picked it up (although I'm not complaining, it's an awesome feature).

Not sure if OEM boards have features like that too though, I suspect not and even Alienware's hardware is not really 'enthusiast' grade or tweaking friendly.

Recover AC just means it will power on automatically after a power loss.

So if you have a power cut, when the electric comes back on your PC will start itself.

I only know that because my server is set to do it

Oh it's incredibly tweak friendly dude. I've overclocked the 5820k with it to 4.6ghz bench stable and managed a solid 4.4ghz @ 1.2v so it's all there in great depth. The bus is even available which I was surprised by

Only it has a Soundblaster Recon3D (very similar to the Z) and a Killer NIC wired network card.

In fact there are many, many tweaks and options. I had a brief dig earlier so I'll know more once I shut down. But here are the OC controls.

My Maximus VII Hero has charging while off, but also only on specific USB ports. Also I can't find it in the Bios settings, always have to re enable after a BIOS flash through the Asus software.

Turn off USB selective suspend as this will shut down all USB's on suspend and power off.
