Hey everyone, so i think it's time for me to upgrade my current rig.
my specs are:
Asus Maximus IV Extreme
Intel i7 2600K
Cooler master V8
corsair 2X4Gb XMS cas 7 1600Mhz
WD green 1Tb sata 2
corsair 60Gb ssd sata 2 (can't remember exactly the model)
seasonic 760x 760watts
Asus GTX570
HAF X

I got stuck with the WD green HDD cuz there was nothing else on the market at that time.
my budget is limitted so i can only upgrade one area for now, i'm thinking RAM or a WD black HDD, i just want to get the most increase in performance for now until i can upgrade again.
Any help would be welcome.

Hmm RAM and HDD are a pretty niche thing to upgrade given what you have.

Get yourself an SSD instead of the caviar black. (most people go for 120GB to fit OS, games and programs on).

Even your GPU is still pretty good. That would be my next upgrade after an SSD. You'd have to get a 670 or 79x0 to get something significantly better though.

RAM is going to do nothing for you pc unless you are doing large amounts of video/photo editing and rendering.

upgrading your RAM won't give u noticeable boost unless u spend too much on it.
a SSD will give u great increase for performance.
u can also over-clock your cpu , if u haven't

Well owning that kind of motherboard with a k sku CPU without overclocking it would be silly, as you can see in my sig I have it oc'd, along with the gpu.
Speaking of ssd's, I have a sata 2 60 gb one for os and a few games, how about a raid 0 setup with two 60 gb ssd's, gives me the same 120 gb and more speed, unless a single sata 3 ssd is faster.

I wouldn't advise using the onboard RAID solution for RAID0. At least, I haven't found it any faster than a single drive, and it makes you lose TRIM.

Any suggestions for a good raid controller?
And about the gpu, not gonna upgrade any time soon but when I do, is it batter getting a single newer gpu or going for sli with another 570?

RAID on SSDs makes no noticeable difference. Far better to get a bigger SSD than 2 smaller ones.

It seems to me like you're kind of just wanting to spend money here, you're better off just saving it really and putting it towards the new gpu or something - not that you really need that.

Is the choice was between the HDD and RAM, there's no point in upgrading RAM, so I'd be saying get a 120gb SSD, keep or sell the 60gb one and then you'd have no need for a hard drive faster than the WD Green

So my best bet is get a new sata 3 ssd 120gb or more, should I keep my os on the old one or reinstall it on the new one and use the old one for games etc.

Put everything on the new one if you can. All music and films and stuff on the HDD. And any extra programs you need that you run out of space for on the 120gb SSD put on the 60.

120gb is normally enough for most people so you may not even use the other SSD. Which 60gb SSD is it btw?

Yeh reinstall everything on the new SSD, boot up and program/game loading times will be noticeably better. What's your budget for the upgrade? 120 GB will be enough for your most important programs and games and any money that you do save can go towards a new GPU in the future.
