Should i upgrade to the 2600k and a p67 mobo or wait for bulldozer because I heard it’s going to be $300/£200 for an 8 core at 3.6 ghz which sounds pretty good.

Also will bulldozer work with current am3 boards?

thanks

Only some AM3 boards will work and only some of the 8xx series boards. And if you get it for an 8xx series board you wont get full advantage of bulldozer. SOOOO that being said their is no bench data on bulldozer yet but it's supposed to compete with the 2600k. SOOOO with that being said if it is a viable competitor to the 2600k it wont be as fast unless you have a 9xx series (AM3+) board.

If you get a 2600k and a p67 mobo, while having spare parts lying around....you'll end up with two PCs. That's my situation right now. o_O

How desperate are you to upgrade? I'd say at least wait another couple of months and then make a decision to see how good AMD's new offering is.

If you go 1155 though with a Sandybridge you can upgrade to Ivybridge when its released and im sure the AMD BS sorry I mean BD will be lagging behind.

I agree, there have been a few posts lately in the "shall I buy now or wait" vein, and the advice is usually based on how desperate that person is to upgrade. The sensible choice is to wait and see what the new stuff is like of course as there's a paricular glut of new goodies soon. I mean, totally new CPU from AMD, the first of the true performance parts from Intel, as well as new GPUs from both AMD and nVidia.

Ok, there's also great kit to be had NOW, but that will still be around for a little while after the launch of the above - possibly at a better price point too

Thanks for that info. But i don’t really mind having to get a new mobo because the features of the am3+ boards are a lot better than the ones on mine.

Don’t really need to two pcs. I sell my spare components.

.

My 955 is bottlenecking my 6870's but I’m not really desperate to upgrade i can still max most games.
