My suggestion would be get a 3570K as this is all you really need for gaming

If this is for gaming get the 3570k if you want to upgrade, you don't really need to though but if you have the money anyway, why not

Upgrade your gpu first - upgrading your cpu is going to literally do nothing for gaming if that is what this pc does. You have an overclocked phenom II - it will run games perfectly well. A single 5870 does not!

i got a sapphire 950Mhz 7950 on the way got bonus from work pay day so going to treat my self to new motherboard and gpu thinking

i7 3770k and z77 sabre tooth MB, is that a good combination also can you take the thermal armour off and use it ok?

If you like to overclock id say get a sandybridge cpu as they clock better than ivybridge and put it with either a z68 or z77 board, if gaming then a 2500k if you render and game then 26-2700k.

so i think its i7 3770k and sabertooh only problem i got is does ivy bridge really get that hot for say a 4.5Ghz and average voltage for that clock

or shall i just go for sandy bridge?

it will be watercooled but sharing the loop with a gpu i have 360rad and a 120rad no the super thick ones standard xspc

4,5Ghz water cooled shouldn't be a problem with Ivy. I think you could do 4,6 as well.
