Ubuntu & Kubuntu 5.10

catch22

Ubuntu & Kubuntu 5.10 appear to be all the rage at present What particulary do they offer? How do they compare to Xandros /Linspire something for the more ignorant such as myself??

NB: I have some Ubuntu 5.1 discs for PC 32bit and 64 bit if ya want 'em?

Just send me the pnp (its about £1 per disc) and I'll chuck it over :)

Ubuntu is very easy to use and used the interface GNOME 2

Kubuntu is still quite easy to use and uses KDE 3. *

its down to preference my man, i personally prefer KDE (im a suker for amarok)

Linspire and Xandros both use a modified KDE ;

Linspire is apparently the easiest to obtain software for (using a online 'shop' system)

all are easy to use, all are based on debian and well a nice intro to linux

personally id say go for either of the *buntu's they are supported greatly, are relatively easy to use [and free of cost]

KDE VS GNOME COMPARISON HERE

Many thanks for the input!

I have made up a puter for a young kid from bits found at one of our local tips so I think one of these should be fine. I believe they come with Open Office another bonus as its needed for writing.

Sign up at the Ubuntu website and they'll send you a whole stack of discs for nothing. They even include a 'live' disc so you can try it out without installing it.
