Typhoon vs. Shogun battle...Which will win?

Without being rude: neither!

I would get either a Thermalright XP-120, XP-90 or an XP-90c. Couple that with some AS5 and a nice fan (delta, Panafloe, papst) and you're in business :) :yumyum:

Any Thermalright Heatsink rofl! My XP-90 w/Arctic Silver Ceramique, keeps my Newcie @ 45ºC Load, in a compact case.

BTW, Arctic Silver Ceramique>AS5.

See, |3ourne explained it to me....

Arctic Silver Ceramique...

-Isn't Conductive

-Easier To Clean Up

-Works Just As Well

-Better for Extreme Cooling (Dice, P/S, LiNitro, etc)

-Cheaper

and more. Go with the Arctic Silver Ceramique.

The cheapest place to get it, for US Citizens, is Jab-Tech, $3.99 w/Free Shipping.

AS5 is known to be better on CPU's mate. It is more heat conducting. AS Ceramique is for GPU's and chipset where making a mess is easier and there are transistors that don't need to have conductive stuff heaped over them.

With the IHS on an A64 - this doesn't matter - as long as you don't smear it on the pins ;)

Oh well, I'm just quoting what |3ourne said to me over instant messaging.

I'd rather use AS-C personally, anyway, but....

best fan to go with XP90C would be either a sanyo denki or a panaflo ( deltas are louder and have an annoying tick to them when u turn them down ) .

@Nicks : Im sorry if you misunderstood me. I meant that considering the near similar performances ( less than 1 degree difference ) and the advantage of being completely inert , Ceramique is a better buy . It requires less time to settle as well and works well even in subzero temps making it a favourite among a lot of phase change users. Personally , I use AS5 for air/watercooling my cpus and Ceramiques on my gfx and mobo fans. But I have used ceramique on cpus before and it works just as well.

Its just personal preference about how experienced of a builder you really are. If u spread paste everywhere but on the cpu then go with ceramique , if not then AS5 gets my vote.
