Triple trouble - Need some build advice

Hey guys,

Planning 3 new systems, would like to get some advice on my plans so far.

Background: My wife & I both like to play World of Warcraft, Multiboxing style. She plays up to 5 accounts, I've played both 5 and 10. 5-boxing brings my wife's rig to it's knees (on lowest setting), mine can handle 5-boxing (not perfect, but playable) but 10-boxing, even with CPU overclocking, is just to much to ask, both systems are at least 3 years old. So no upgrading, planning for some new toys (thumb-rule for Multiboxing: one tread per game-session). And while I'm at it my old server needs an upgrade to, therefore triple trouble in the making.
Location: We're in Germany (for the time being at least).
Budget: I've just given up having one, got blown and raised at least twice already.
Storage: I'm still waiting for the bigger 2014 Synology NASs to be announced and released (1814+), there for no hard drives just SSDs.
Monitors: The wife's got 4 (one full-HD, the other 1600x1200) , I've got 6 (center ist a 30 inch 2560x1600, it flanked by two 1600x1200 in portrait, above those three more 1600x1200).
Peripherals: Logitech G13, G19 & G600.
Goal: More power!!! & Silence.

Here are the plans so far:
System 1 (Server):
Asus Maximus VII Impact
Intel Core i7-4790K
Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB DDR3-2400
Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB
Corsair AX760i

System 2 (Mine):
Asus ROG Rampage V Extreme
Intel i7 5930K or 5960X
Corsair Dominator Platinum 4 x 8 Gb DDR4-2666 CL15 - or - G.SKill RipJaws 4 x 8 Gb Kit DDR4-2666 CL15
Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB
2 or 3 EVGA GTX 980
Corsair AX1200i

System 1 & 2 will bunk together in a HAF Stacker (915-935-915).

System 3 (Wife):
Asus X99 Deluxe
Intel 5820K or 5930K
Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB
Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR4-2800 White
1 or 2 EVGA GTX 980
Corsair AX 760i
Corsair Carbide Air 540 Silver Edition

Gona custom water cool both system. Never water cooled before, so we'll see how that works out. Was planning to put an Alphacool NexXxoS UT60 360 & an Alphacool NexXxoS XT45 240 with 5 Corsair SP fans in my Wife's rig. The HAF Stacker, with the two systems in it, has room for 2 360s (60mm) and 2 240s (60 or 80mm) radiators. If there is sufficient room I'll do push-pull on the 240 radiators. I'll be getting EK Waterblocks all round (probably the hydro copper 980s), rigid tubing, Aquacomputer Aquastream XT pumps (will one suffice for the Stacker?) and an Aquacomputer Aquaero 6 to control it all.

I know my systems may be a little overkill, but I want to buy myself something nice for once (recently achieved a very important work related goal and this is my little treat for that). Would you change anything, would the 5820K suffice in my wife's rig, what about my water cooling plans, please don't hesitate to elaborate. Would like to get some lighting in both systems, any ideas?. That's about it. Any other advice is off course welcome.

Sorry for the long read.

Thanks sPˊ!ˋKe

Total waste of money on this plus you never spoke about what the server will be doing. If its a file server in all honesty even an i3 is OTT. Ill personally be using a 4130T because of its low TDP but you can easily just use a Pentium because the most stressfull thing its likely to do is unrar stuff. I do dump some transcoding off to my server from my TV at times (using plex) but it sits at 100% for like 10 seconds then idles again for 30 (just the way it works, even does it with big cpu's just less time at 100)
Id honestly focus a server build on low power and silence so that you can leave it on and forget about it. Home plugs are the way forward and just set it up with remote desktop - pretty much everything I have.

System 2 (Mine):
Asus ROG Rampage V Extreme
Intel i7 5930K or 5960X
Corsair Dominator Platinum 4 x 8 Gb DDR4-2666 CL15 - or - G.SKill RipJaws 4 x 8 Gb Kit DDR4-2666 CL15

Corsair AX1200i

Case is personal choice but I personally do not like that case 1 bit. If youre looking at spending that kind of money on your main rig get 2800mhz memory as a minimum with the money youll save from the server build. Id also say get a nicer case too and have the 'server' hidden someone and controlled via remote desktop.

System 3 (Wife):
Asus X99 Deluxe
Intel 5820K or 5930K
Samsung 850 Pro 256 GB
Corsair Vengeance 16 GB DDR4-2800 White
1 or 2 EVGA GTX 980
Corsair AX 760i
Corsair Carbide Air 540 Silver Edition

If youre thinking about the 5820 Id probably just say get the 4790k and something like the Maximus VII Formula and again save some money. PSU wise Id get the HX75oi instead too - its quieter and as good if not better than the old AXi.

If shes rocking a single monitor youll only need a single 980 even a 970 tbh. I personally favor a 2560x1440 screen though - at this point a couple of 970's will be awesome and Id go to Asus Strix cards for that to match the motherboard.

So basically what you're saying is I'm wasting my money and buying an ugly case.

Let's start at the beginning, the server in the basement thing, I've had that for the last ten years. They are ugly, big (HP Proliant, already gone), take up a lot of space and are way to loud, plus everytime the damm thing needs service you have to go down there. I never liked it and want something different. Yes most of the time it will do standard server stuff and be way overkill. But I want something that looks nice in my ugly case, I want it quiet and I want it close to me. And if I'm multiboxing some demanding game and my main rig can't handle all the sessions on it's own I want to have an extra system at hand to take some of the load (game sessions) of off the main rig. So yes most of the time it will just be sitting there not doing much, but like this I know that when I need the extra power its there. And it something to look at that fits the coloring style of the main rig, also living in my ugly case.

Few things about multiboxing, 5 boxing means you control 5 chars, at the same time. Thus you'll need to have five sessions of the game running on your rig simultaneously. On my wife's rig that would mean five sessions at 1920x1080, on my rig that's 5 times 2560x1600. With the new WoW expansion coming out next month (with the very needed graphical updates) it will take some computing power to run all those sessions. In the multiboxing community there is a rule that says for smooth gameplay try to get one core, or at the least on thread per gamesession.

Main rig: That bring us to my 8-core choice. One core per session (while 10-boxing), I would have to go Xeon, that, for me is one bridge to far. So at least one thread per session, a 6 core might still cut it for 10-boxing, 15-boxing the two extra cores will definitely help, unless I offload to the 4790 (doing nothing) in the server, in which case a 6-core would once again suffice. I might in the future also want record and or stream some of my boxingsessions so again a spare core might come in handy.
About the Memory: The only reason I took 2600 memory is because someone told me that it's important to buy memorypacks as a whole, and not to combine two sets. The 32 Gb sets only come in 2600 or lower. It's not a price thing, what's a hundred bucks or so on the total price of these 3 systems?? Plus I want to have the option to upgrade to 64 GB in the future (when to insane memory prices drop a bit) so I can make use of a RAM-drive, not an option when I get myself two 4x4 kits. If you have a better solution please tell me.

This brings us to my wife's rig. She want a system to do decent 5-boxing, so 5 cores, so x99 6 cores. The 5820 suffices as long as you don't go over double SLI. Do I need dual cards was one of my questions. If I can just quote my first post:

Monitors: The wife's got 4 (one full-HD, the others 1600x1200), I've got 6 (center is a 30 inch 2560x1600, it's flanked by two 1600x1200 in portrait, above those three more 1600x1200).
So she's rocking not one but four monitors, which put's the one or two 980s or 970s in another perspective.

Now the PSU advice is something I can really use, if the HX750i is quieter and at least as good I will definitely go for it. What I don't know is if both server a the wife's rig need 750 watts? What about the main rig AXi1200? Is that OK or would you change that too?

Last question, how about the planned cooling capacity, does it suffice in both cases? The goal is quiet with room to do some overclocking.

welcome to the forum.

Wish my wife was into PC's the way yours is. Just wondering when you are returning to the UK and whether you get "mehrwehrsteuer" off due to a special post code privilege ;).

Look forward to when you can PM.

I ain't from the UK, so won't be returning either ;-)

It's nice to be able to share this interest with her, though mine goes way further then hers.

Ah ok which makes me think you are American or Australian as your written English is very good.

The closest my wife is to having an interest in PC's is her ipad :)

Thanks for the compliment, I'm Dutch, the wife's German. The goal is Australia or New Zealand.

My wife loves the iPad too, especially to search Amazon for the next thing she want's to order ;)

After PM'ing spike to say I didnt have time to reply straight away I got this in reply:

Well than we both have the same problem. But that still leaves me with no answer, which means I'll have to go look somewhere else to get it, which will cost me even more time I don't have.

Please remember peeps - any responses here are free and take time to be done right especially with the depth of the reply above. Please do not EXPECT replies from me I have the whole business side of things to deal with as well as the front end of the site. I understand people like me to help them and I will when ever possible but situations like this one actually make me not want to bother at all.

Tell the whole story Tom, not just the part that makes you look good and me like a bad guy!!!!!

I'm leaving this forum, you've ruined it for me here. You can delete this message after you red it, to keep your "pseudo" good reputation.

The boys here know I dont answer questions via PM - everyone else just goes to the forum and asks dude. I dont even answer PM Q's for the regulars.

Quite frankly expecting stuff from me and your responses to me asking you to just make a post were just rude.

If you dont have the time to make a post why should I bother to waste my time trying to help you?

I think you are going to run out of space very fast with just a 256gb drive, I'd go for 2 500 gb Samsung ssd's in each one and then as the need arises (which it will), I'd add hdds to it in 1tb segments.
Good luck with your projects.
