Transfer of OS volume Between Raid drives

Hi guys.

Right, I am currently running 4 250gb Drives in 2 Raid 0 arrays..

I want to buy 2 1tb spinny Drives and replace both the sata arrays with these drives.

My question is, I can transfer the array with my files on np and it will work fine, however if I transfer the volume with my OS on will it still run??

I was under the impression that if I copied the contents of the OS drive to the new array it would be located in another position and therfore windows wouldnt be able to find files etc...??

If so, what do I need to do?? Clone the OS array across first and then copy the remaining files after this?? Will it work cloning from one size volume to a larger volume??

What will happen with the partitions as I have a separate partition for the OS on the os Volume.

:) Cheers guys, hope this makes sense!

You need clonezilla tbh, but its awkward with raid. If you are running it straight off your mobo sata ports then Id just go for a clean install tbh.

I haven't had any problems with transferring OSes between raid drives (I went from Raid 5 to 0) I used acronis because its pretty idiot proof, but clonezilla is a good alternative. Only advantage to acronis is that it doesn't care too much about partition size AFAIK

Problems generally present themselves in the form of sata controller drivers.

If ur using the same controller, just changing the disks, I don't see a problem with making an image of the old, then build the new and image the copy to the new setup.

At worst u should need to run ur OS Install DVD on a repair run.

Clean install is always the best, but if u wanna try it, I think it "should" work.

H8 raid myself tbh. Only trust it enough for game installs.

Loving the ava btw.

I don't mind RAID, but remember its not an alternative to having backups! I have one RAID 0 for my OS and another for its backups (taken daily, not on RAID 0+1)
