Trace an ip address

Hi guys, i just wanted to know if there´s any way that i can trace an ip address? (when someone hacks into ur com and so on)

I believe that if it was done by a real hacker, you won't easily find him just by tracing his IP. Mostlikely he has used one or more proxy and to get user info from proxies is not something easy... good luck anyway!

It´s a loooooong story, and kinda hard to explain without writing a whole book lol. In any case its an idiot who doesnt know what he´s doing, thats for sure, ´cause u wouldn´t notice a pro hacker. I think its a 14 year old kid who´s trying to learn how to hack. unfortunate for him, i have talked to my isp, and they agree that ít´s a hacker, and if i can get the ip (wich i have already seen in the firewall, but didnt write it down at the time) they are gonna sue him with everything they got, ´cause they know it´s one of their customers (Cleaned out her harddrive, installed windows again, and it worked perfectly here, ´cause i got another isp, but when she turned it on at her house, it started to go crazy again.) And its the most powerful isp in denmark so he´s screwed if i get the ip again. It happened on my moms com, so i´m pretty pissed off. Going to get the Ip later 2day.

Tnx for the help guys, ur the greatest :worship:

U can trace the data route by typing 'tracert' followed by the IP address. It will show each hop from your pc, your isp, etc, etc, other person's pc.

Typing that into a DOS prompt BTW!

i've set up a program to listen for people scanning on port 80, and as soon as they do i get there ip address :) its called netcat if anyones interested.

You'd be suprised at how many are linux worms.

Yeah there has been an increasing number of worms for Apache server. Luckily SX doesn't use any of the common server applications to power the site, so we are pretty much safe as houses ;)

If someone is accesing my pc, will they have a firewall preventing them from receiving, ummmm, how do i put it... 'justice' from my computer or does their firewall still apply?

well, it depends if you have all of your ports secured, i'd do one of the many free port scans that are on the net.

Problem with all of these programs, tracert, whois, Internic etc, is that they will not log the IPs of good hackers. As has already been said, a good hacker will not only bounce their connection through a large number of proxies, but they will usually use someone elses internet connection, ie a local wireless link, and therefore can be impossible to trace.

Well it's all sad in my eyes. Everything from spam, viruses and hackers, all sad products of the internet. Don't they have trouble with routers though?
