Topmounted passive radiator, worth it?

Greetings.

Planning on getting a TJ07, put the usual 480 in the bottom and possibly mount a passive 360 in the top, would there be any point in having the passive in the loop?

I'm going to be cooling a single GPU system, currently it's a FX-8350 and a single 680 on a single 180 by 540 radiator. It is currently housed pretty well in a FT02, but the system gets a bit toasty seeing as all the hot air runs through the entire case.

The plan is to have four Gentle Typhoon 500 RPM (or similar stupidly quiet fans, feel free to let me know if you know any great and really quiet fans!) on the bottom radiator and the top passive.

Long story short.. would there be any benefit to the top radiator in this case?

Going for the quietest operation possible here.

Many thanks for any replies

Rads usually have a fin array that is so dense that they don't perform well (if at all) without any fans.on them. For instance:
- Noctua NH-D14 without fans: CPU gets very hot.
- Corsair H100i without fans: CPU overheats and PC turns off.

It may cool an extra 2-3 degrees, but I don't think that's worth the money.

If you want quiet; Get some Noctua NF-F12 of NF-P12 fans. They may not look pretty but you won't see them anyway, especially when your mount them in pull (which is just as good as push temp wise, but the rad would be easier to clean).

I actually wouldn't recommend NF-F12s if you're wanting the quietest possible as they don't start at 5v. Maybe Corsair SP120 Quiet Editions or Silverstone AP121s, or as mentioned the P12s.

Other than that I agree :)

Didn't realize that, good to know :)

Also you would struggle to get a thick rad in there at all, as the roof has a bracket to hold the fans, which would obstruct the radiator.

Thanks for all the replies!

I am really not too concerned by cost, I've already waited half a year in the planning, doing my first build to learn how to do it right and trying out different things.

Was originally going with a premodded TJ07 by Specialtech but if there's no benefit at all, I might just go for a regular model, get a window or something up there instead (I really don't mind dropping the 150 quid for the top radiator at all, if it does something :P).

I'll go ahead and purchase a NF-P12 and give it a try, already bought a single Gentle Typhoon to test it out and while it doesn't move a stupid amount of air, it's stupidly quiet, at least!

Many thanks for the replies :)

TBH the standard TJ07 is dated. VERY dated. Id honestly tell you to rethink fella.

I intend to mod a fair few things, buy a good bunch of the professionally made bits (hell a lot better than what I can do!). I really like the feel and customizability.

In general I really like subtle cases, if you or anyone have any great ideas, I'd be all ears :)

I', also interested in this as i'm building my current system into a define R4, 360 rad in the front but I have a spare 240 that would fit in the top, I did consider some of the super thin Scythe fans but I gather they will make little difference. Maybe i'll try it and post up my results :)
