Ok , would like to know what is better set up

I have an Asus P5N32-E Plus sli

would it be better for performance in terms of graphics gaming

to have two Geforce 8800 GTS @ 512mb on sli

or have one Geforce 8800 Ultra @ 768mb

Both boards are manufactured by XFX with Nvidia GPU

Thanks

My question to be exact :), I asked previously on another forum they said to go for the 1 card. Within the forum there was a few with SLI linked and some replied to my post, this was awhile ago though.

The reason for this was that games are not supporting SLI as cards are becoming more and more powerful etc... But they said if I was to have more than 1 monitor bigger than 22" go for dual graphics.

Maybe someone here can shed some light.

Personally, if I already had the cards, I`d try sli with new mobo, newer drivers etc etc.

If I were buying, I wouldn`t bother. I prefer a single and I mean not a x2/2x card.

Benchmarks will be nice tho.

Well, one 512mb GTS performs between the GTX and Ultra up to certain resolutions (1920x1200 - 24" it loses).

So if the game doesn't support SLI (oh, I don't mean to be rude but Youngie; I haven't ever heard of such a thing being said, nvidia still invest heavily with developers, games will continue to support sli, especially as tri sli is being pushed) you still have pretty much the performance you'd have with the ultra.

Now, factor in the second card where sli is supported and you leave the ultra in the dust. Plus you'll get some nice benchmark scores.

For the above reasons I say get 2 8800GTS in sli on one condition, you wait for the 790i mobo (showing some real promise) and wait 2/3 weeks as 'next gen' cards are coming, pushing prices down on these cards.

My budget on the Graphics card is £300

I want to get a card, that can top up crysis in all aspects.

What card and where can I find it at a reasonable price?

Thanks

Top up Crysis? No card plays Crysis at a high res at very high settings currently

An 8800 GT will probably do you OK at High settings :)

What about a XFX Nvidia 8800 Ultra ?

That would probably top up Crysis

Best card in the Market so far

plus I'm going to put a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550

and 2x 2GB (4GB ) OCZ Nvidia Sli Ram PC2-6400 800MHZ

You don't think this would top Up Crysis?

Nothing can play Crysis at very high with all details maxed out at a high res and get decent fps.. Kempez recently reviewed 3 x Ultras in triple sli and still wouldn't do it.

Edit: Here ya go.. Linky

lol @ 'top up' :)

If you mean play crysis at highest settings in dx10 then no graphics card/s out there will be able to do this.

As soon as you bump up the settings and resolution, add any AA - things slow down.

If you are willing to compromise then you can run things 'high' in dx10 with a small res such as 1280x1024 then things will be fine with an ultra.

Obviously going sli helps crysis perf... £300? I'd go for GT's in sli or a gtx

Bungral et al are correct no current hardware can handle Crysis at high resolution with graphic goodness turned on. Kinda makes you think the graphics card manufacturers sold us o dud on the first gen DX10 cards. I have just bought a second 8800GTX but i haven't tried SLI yet ( still building... )
