To monitor or not to monitor, that is the question...

Well guys, the "new monitor bug" has bitten again and I'm contemplating getting a new one.

At the moment I've got a very good and trusty iiyama Vision Master Pro 514 monitor (22" CRT) which I'm really happy with. However, it is a little on the bulky side and I reckon a nice flat panel screen would go down a treat!

So....which one to buy?

Ideally I don't want to lose any size if possible but I also don't want to be spending a huge amount on a new one either.

Anyway, I don't know enough about monitors so thought I'd post to ask.

These Dell 20" monitors, are they any good? Will I get ghosting with an LCD / flat panel monitor when in games?

Any help and advise would be great! :D

Oh and if you know of a good place to buy (in the UK), please let me know :D

Cheers lads!! :wiggle:

A Dell or Samsung 20" monitor will look very nice when gaming and as their widescreen you should gain some area to play with.

No TFT's I use have tearing if you use vsynch

ST have a few in...apart from that Aria, SCAN

the new 22" WS panels are very decently priced for their ratio in size.

Agreed, I realllllllly want that new 22" Sceptre. The specs and price are both amazing.

you wont get any ghosting with these modern tft's chris, that has been pretty much qiped out on any average screen.

Dell 20" are always good, and Samsung's 204BW is solid. If you decide to try and get a 22" right now either WS's or Acer's are your best bets. Samsung's and Viewsonic's seem to have some pretty bad backlight bleed issues right now (Samsung definately, VS's not so much). Hopefully I'll be able to get my hand's on Sceptre's to see how that one is :)

I'm looking for an improvement in size over my 22" CRT so would probably want to go 22" or bigger on a widescreen LCD.

remember that a 22" CRT doesn't have 22" viewable, a 20" LCD has probably marginally larger viewable area .

Can be very true. Many CRTs are obnoxiously smaller than their selling size, big fat borders going around the screen `n stuff.

To state the obvious also, a 22" widescreen anything is going look smaller than a 22" `squarer`screen, but is more nature a view for the eyes.
