well, for those of you who use a Bad looking/ generic psu, this guide is a rather simple way to make it look a lil better
* Anyone undertaking this guide,
who is a total dumbass, should note that this guide immediately void their warranty, and could quite possibly cause 'DEATH'(if you dont follow instructions). overclock3d shall not be held accountable for damage to their PSU or funeral costs.
well, now youve passed the legal mumbo jumbo, heres what you'll need for this mod
1xflat 80 mil fan grille of your choice ( wire ones reccomended, as they look better on a psu)
1x molex 2 wire l.E.D fan of your choice( quiet fans that shift a decent amount are reccomended)
1xcable sleeving kit (ebuyer retail these at about 2 pounds)
1x cutting pliers
1x roll of electricians tape
1x electricians screwdriver
-+::OPTIONAL::+-
1x clear psu cover
heres how to mod up your little pos psu
step 1.
remove the the screws that retain the main body or cover of the psu, (There should be four in total, on the underside,) and put it to one side...if there is a large capacitor that attaches to the psu, it should just unplug, so no troubles there. (DON'T fiddle with the capacitor, they're rather delicate and potentially system/life ending). when you have done this, look at that fan cover on the rear of the psu...looks appalling dont it.?
somthing that might not stand out instantly is that its actually an 80 mil fan and grill, so, taking care to not damage the psu body, cut out the grille. this should take about 2 minutes, as most stock grilles are attached by 4 rather dweebish pillars of metal.
when youve cut it out, throw it away, your not gonna be needing it again.
next, use the screwdriver to unscrew the fan mounted on the inside of the case. keep the screws and fan if you want to store them somewhere.
to remove the fan, just cut the two wires attached to it, but leave enough wire there to reattach your new fan.
step 2.
take your new led fan, and cut the molex off it, then strip some wire casing off it. then, VERY carefully, join the red and black wires on the fan and the red and black wires on the psu fan supply. you can twist them or solder them together, depending on your preference. if you use either of those methods, remmeber to coat the connections with tape, to make sure you dont short somthing on the psu.
next, put your fan so its blowing out of the case of the psu, and put it in, with the fan cover you bought between the fan and psu wall. then procede to screw it in with ( you guessed it) your screwdriver. after youve done this, IF youve bought a new cover, you can attach your new cover....if your using a psu with the odd capacitor attached to the cover, you can attemp to remove it and reattch it to your
new cover, but i would not reccomend this. if your still using the stock cover, try rubbing it down and polishing it with brasso polish, as this will give it a nice shine..you can also remove the makers badge and do that area too..enjoy!
step 3 -=::VERY IMPORTANT::=-
on first run of the psu, keep your hands clear of the casing, plug the power chord in, and be careful not to touch the casing when you turn it all on...then procede to go into bios, check your volts for any changes, noting any major ones. when yourcertain your comp is running dafely and stabely, well done, you've successfully undertaken this simple but effective mod
