Time to change my speaker set up.

Has been a long time coming, I have been using my trusty Cambridge SoundWorks Desktop Theater 5.1 DTT2200 for the best part of 5 years. However I cannot justify keeping such a clutter of cables in my "PC Corner". They still sound phenomenal but I need to downsize.
Now here is where I hit a problem. I am pretty ill informed on speakers and what is the best route to go, USB/Digital Audio or 5/7.1
Hell I have even been told that sound bars are worth while nowadays.
I'll be on a budget of £0-£100 as I seriously need to stop investing in parts for my hobby.
Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Why not remove all but two speakers from your current setup and run it as a 2.1 if you like the way it sounds and there's nothing else wrong with it? Also, any other 5/7.1 system will come with the same clutter you are trying to get rid of.

I'm gonna go with alxcsb on this one, why not just downsize it to 2.1 instead?. That's what I'm planning on doing. I have an Creative 5.1 system and it's too much speakers and too much cables for me, so therefore I came up with the idea of trying to only use 2.1 instead and it worked out, so gonna go down that route.

Why not save money when you already have a setup that is capable and can also do what you are looking for in the first place?. It's a win win situation here :)

Microlab dude :) look at their stuff
Those aren't bad at all. I had an FC360, for about £55 shipped, and it kicked ass. Had to upgrade to a Technics SC-EH760 to feel any real difference. On the other hand, the OP said he had a Cambridge Soundworks system, which were bloody brilliant, had one of those back in the day, bass was ground-shaking, yet the rest of the spectrum was bang on as well. The microlab is more balanced. Anyway, best thing to do, I still believe, is to just remove the rear and center speakers, take the cables out of the soundcard, and set it up as 2.1. 5 minute job that is free.

I have the M700 for £30 it isn't bad at all my mrs has them now. I bought a 5.1 setup from A secondhand shop for £20 and I use the optical link then I replaced the "bell speaker wire" with 42 strand it sounds awesome for the price :)
