Time for an upgrade.

So, for a while now I have been running with a Gigabyte Z68-MA-DH2-B3 motherboard (LGA1155) and a Intel i3-2100. However I just got myself a GTX580 and I heave released how empty my chassis looks with this motherboard in (It's a CM Storm Stryker), also my cooler blocks 3 of the ram slots on it.

So im looking for an upgrade and wondered if people has suggestions, im happy to go with either a new motherboard or a MB+Processor upgrade. As you may be able to tell by the fact I got a 580 (off ebay) and not a 770ti I don't have a lot of money to throw about, sub £200 ideally for MB+CPU. perhaps a little more if I manage to sell my current one & Old GPU. (I know it's not a lot, but i'm 17, it's all i got)

Thanks for any help

EDIT: PSU I have is a OCZ Mod-Xtreme 500w, next upgrade after this I hope to be a Corsair AX-###

Arrrrrgh!!!! Kill it! For the love of all things holy (or not if your not religious) upgrade your PSU first...pretty please! Don't risk new hardware on that PSU.

Seriously man, You need to hire an exorcist and get a new PSU, OCZ PSU's are horrific.

Haha, I know I know, but the thing has never let me down and my room is not on fire (Yet), and as pretty as the corsair PSU's are they cost so bloody much (The modular ones).

How much do you have to spend on a PSU ?

Well, not much really. I doubt I would be able to sell on my current one so it's gonna be around £100, needs to power 4x SATA drives (Can function with 2 [2xDrives, 1xDVD, 1x Front HDD port), MB, the 580, and all the fans in the Stryker (3x Molex?), given a few months I can probably stretch it to £150, however the OCZ may give up by then due to the higher load than before ( I had a 260)

I'm so pleased you said this, I had the very same 500W OCZ ModXstream Pro in my last rig and it served me very well for years, until 4 weeks ago when it went pop and took the GPU and SSD with it. Sad times :(

+1 with Dicehunter the RM750 is a good solid choice.

Thank you, Always happy to help.

If you want to wait a week or so for slighty more funds you could get the 850w version so you have a good amount of upgrade headroom for the future.

Corsair RM Series RM 850w '80+ Gold'

Well, just hoping it lasts a few more days.

Dabs have the best prices for Corsair RM's in the UK, I think all of them but definitely the 650 because I bought one earlier :) HXi is coming soon if you have a slightly bigger budget. If you dig deep in your pockets and spend a bit more you get free postage too.

450 - 68.98
550 - 67.99
650 - 79.99
750 - 87.99
850 - 99.99
1000 - 119.98

Personally I'd get the highest wattage at the best price, I know he isn't going to use it all now but it's always good to plan a bit for the future plus more efficiency etc...

Sadly amazon once again take the throne for lowest price (same as dabs here, but I have prime) I will be going for the 850w I think, save me another upgrade in the future.

Good choice mate :). I have a RM750, a 7870 and an OC'd 8320 and I still havent seen the fan spin up even with CPU and GPU stress tests running at the same time.
