TIme for a downgrade?

SO I currently run a Gigabyte 1080 Gamer card on an Acer 34".

In my new build (Ryzan) I am considering going for a 27" 1440 144HZ Monitor.

Would the new Vega 56 be a good choice for that type of monitor, noting the price difference between Team Green and Team Red Support?

Cheers...

The 1080 you have now is faster than both Vega56 and Vega64, If you are getting a 144Hz monitor you want all the performance you can get, Not less.

Confused a little. Do you mean you are building a new rig with a new monitor, and keeping what you have? or down/side grading?

I can understand the drop to 1440p. However if you are worried about Gsync and Freesync you can always use at least something on Nvidia (because they have Fastsync and Adaptive).

Please be more concise.

Hows this :)

1. Have 1080
2. Have 34"
3. New Build Coming
4. Looking at Vega 56 Card
5. Looking at new 27" 1440 144 Hz
6. Is point 4 enough for point 5?

Hope this is a little better to read.

Nope didn't answer my question. I know what you have dude 'cause you already told us. I asked if you were looking at replacing it, or, building a separate entity. You still haven't answered.

However I will try and approach both scenarios.

1. If you were looking to replace a 1080 with a Vega 56 I would have to ask why. The 56 is about as fast as a 1070, only it gets a lot hotter and guzzles down power. It's one of those things that only a mother could love. Unless you have water for it (to shut it up and stop it dying from heat) then avoid. Well, unless you are dead set on using Freesync which would be the only rational and logical reason why you would hobble yourself and downgrade.

2. If you are building another rig with another monitor and really fancy a Vega GPU? yeah that would make more logical sense to me.

Now. I am not sure what you are intending to do with the monitor either. So you've had enough of a 35" and want to downsize to 1440p 144hz? or is it going to be a separate PC for another use?

Personally speaking I would jump at it. Mostly because the res you are using is not 100% supported by 100% games and I stopped playing the "Hope it gets supported !" game a long time ago. I realised that the only thing they cared about was taking my cash, then once that was done I was cast aside like a used johnny.

As I said though, in any circumstance I would only ever pick a Vega GPU (and it wouldn't be 56) over a 1080 if I were absolutely desperate and wanted Freesync to work. And even then I would need to question my sanity, because the 1080 has both Fastsync and Adaptive. Which is usually enough for any one.

So 1080 on 27"/1440/144 would be suitable in most instances?

Yes! The 1080 is a good bit faster than a Vega 56 and honestly a little faster than a Vega 64 (only by a little and only in certain games). If you've got a 1080 now you definitely should keep it because it'll give you the most out of your 144 Hz monitor.

Well unless the monitor is a freesync one, (which you havent stated) I see 0 reason to change away from the 1080. I'm still confused at why you want to change to a poorer card.

Sorry, I understand you question now.

New Rig (gaming) and looking to downsize the monitor and wondering about a new vid card or keeping my old taking into account the V-Sync v Free Sync monitor price difference.

Downgrading from a 1080 to a VEGA56 is just plain silly. Why would you handicap yourself, just because you get a screen with less pixels. From what I can understand you're going from 3440x1440p to 2560x1440p.

It is not worth it dude :)

Thanks...just testing the theories I had.
