Yes as said by a few people there is a very high risk in stocking a lot of hardware and the margin for profit is so small. Some things aren't worth selling as well like printers, scanners, CDs/DVDs and USB drives these are all stocked at large everyday stores even the post office (I not sure the names of stored over their) but they have huge buying power and get things so much cheaper like 5,000 to 1,000,000 units then send them to all the store locations around the country.
I used to run a computer store and never stocked to much stuff besides the main HDD's, PSUs, Low to mid ranged video cards, Fans and few other bits.
Money was made in repairs not sales. data recovery, Virus removal, OS re installs, Replace HDD's, HDD upgrades and simple system clean ups (software and hardware based).
Its all good fun but virus removal dose get the best of you some times. Most the time its easier and better to do a format if its just a home computer.
I used to always make a clone of their hard drive tho just in case some thing went missing most peoples OS is only 80GB max
You will get a few odd jobs come it like typewriters
but I also helped the older people with these they are very simple, Old people like to talk and when your in business word of mouth is the best advertising
But yes opening a computer shop is a good idea just try not pore all your money into it tho and try find a cheap location to home your business (not a shady part of town
)
I opened with 3 other computer shops already in town and when I closed down to move towns there was only 1 left as the others went out of business. Was good. But I still can't visit my home town with out people finding out I am in town and hunt me down to fix their PC because they became loyal and also do not like any of the other techs.
Will be a learning curve, Be good to do some studies on it or have some one by your side helping you out along the way.
And you have to give OC3D discounts
