Thermal Paste Shootout (Inc. Cheese)

Lol, was just linked to it from another forum. Interesting results with the different pastes and application methods.

Everybody knows stilton is the best cheese for thermal paste don't they? Nice shoot out but I think omeone else did a more in depth one a few months back (43 or something)

hmm ive always used MX-2 myself, seems to do well, but might give soemthing else a try when i run out. nice shoot out

MX2 for me as well. Used to use arctic silver, thought that that was the best thing since sliced cheese. MX2 now

If any of you out there have been doing sub Zero ccoling, what do you think would withstand a -20 temperature for a long period of time?.

Ceramique seems to be one of the favourites and to be honest there is little reason to look elsewhere. Once you get into the negative temps, the odd 1c advantage to be had between pastes isn't really worth it.

Yeah you have a point, I was just wondering since mine is going to be a submerged system ( Transformer Oil ) , I was wondering if it would currupt the paste or maybe I just shouldn't use for a sumberged system.

Nah I definitely wouldn't use it for a submerged system. As you say it will only contaminate the oil. Instead look at heat transfer pads. I think 3M do some really good ones.

Nice set of results. On the subject of odd things to use as thermal compound, I used toothpaste once, which worked surprisingly well for about a week or so. I would not recommend it as not only did it work for just a week or so, it stained the base of my old Akasa Evo 120 :D
