What do you use and why?

Also what do you recommend using and application method?

I haven't really ever had much experience with using thermal paste the only time i have used it is when re-fitting the heat sinks to my xbox 360 and tbh i didn't really know what i was doing at the time.That was a few years ago now when i was just getting into PC's.

However since watching Tom's videos for just over a year i have more of an understanding of everything to do with computers, and seeing as i'm planning to build my first rig from brand new parts i thought i would make a thread about an area iv'e always been a little unsure about.

MX-4 and I use the spread thinly method. There really isnt a wrong or right way except to much is wrong lol. I've had equal sucess with rice grain do an "X" spread method all with equally decent results. You'll adapt a method you like after doing it a few hundred to a thousand times

I'm also fond of Creamique as well.

I use arctic silver 5. I just put a little blob on cpu and let the cooler do the spreading

i just put a bit in the middle and let the headsink do the spreading

I used AS5 in the past, but recently I've started using MX-4. I use the small dot method. As SIN has mentioned, there's no wrong way unless you put on too much.

I use MX-4, and either do a dot or spread it thin all over. I used to use AS5 but I think MX4 gives slightly better results, and it cheap.

I use Prolimatech PK3 with the dot or vertical line method, the cooler takes care of spreading the paste.

Let the cooler do the spreading otherwise you will end up with air bubbles under your heatsink...

I use mx-4 or pk-1

I had some xspc K2 that came with a raystorm that I never used. Took it to work to use on a busted pc I needed to rebuild, the shit was far too runny.
